Profile builder 2 (Expiry problems)
-
help!
Hi ,I have profile builder 2 (purchased), ( great plugin) I have upgraded to windows 8.1 recently and have not had any issues with it, apart from the normal teething problem as I get used to it all.
SK was working well yesterday. This morning I get the massage that 'The trial period for Profile Builder 2 has expired'. I click ok and from that point on wards none of my other plugings load up and I can not get control of the screed, I am locked out of doing anything apart from changing styles. I get some odd flashing of the scenes dialog box as well as the components dialog box. I have to force it to close.
Any one see this before and can instruct me what to do?

If it worked but now it doesn't something must have happened in the intervening period...

Did you try to [re]install SketchUp explicitly as the 'Administrator' ?
Also is the 'SketchUp.exe' file's properties set for it to 'always run as administrator' ? [Properties > Compatibility]
Have you checked your computer's clock - if the CMOS battery is tired you might have something odd happening time/date-wise, messing with the program's processes.
Have you checked your Internet Explorer 'Internet-Options' settings are no overly onerous [there are several separate threads about this]. Although you may well use another browser day-to-day, many of the dialogs etc in SketchUp rely on the built-in IE [or Safari for MAC] to work, so if something is oddly configured in those options you'll have issues - e.g. javascript must be allowed to run ?
If you disable ProfileBuilder by temporarily removing its .rb file from the Plugins folder does anything improve ?
You need to establish if its error message is a symptom of some other issue, or if it's the disease itself... -
Thanks Tig, ( I think that should be 'Dr Tig')
I will work through your list of possible issues and report back. ( I can not access any menus within SKup to turn off profile builder 2, however when I manually remove the .rb file Skup works fine.) Thank you for your help so far.

So it looks like something is wrong with 'Profile Builder 2' ?
Or at least its installation...
Can I suggest you remove its loader .rb file and its entire subfolder, manually.
Then reinstall it from scratch.
Do not copy files over from another SketchUp version - use the original archive and install afresh.
If it still screws up then contact Dale [the author] directly and see if he has any thoughts ?
Perhaps there's a license or data file somewhere that's become corrupted ?
But this could be in the Registry or the AppData path ?? -
Thanks Tig,
Well not sure what I have done but I have profile builder 2 (PB2) working again with Skup operating as normal.
What did I do... well not sure really, however when I reinstalled Skup on Windows 8.1 some weeks ago now, I think I must has install PB2 from a different Extension Warehouse account and then I transferred my assemblies across to the library folded within PB2. I thought I was working with the paid version but was not and yes it did screw things up within Skup when PB2 expired.
I found a old email from the extension warehouse advising not to store assembles within the aforementioned folder which I was.( not sure if that relevant to my issue)
I deleted the .rb and BP2 folder, ( well moved it out of the way somewhere else) logged onto the other warehouse account, the one I purchased it from and installed it and all looks to be ok ( I had to reset all tool bars for this process). I have moved my assembles else where as instructed. so I think everything is working again.
It was strange how it screwed up Skup though.
Thanks again Dr Tig.
