This reminds me of when I first moved away from the drawing board to began working with a computer. I took all my effort to get the technology to do what I wanted and the complexity of creation became so much more difficult that my designs suffered - very frustrating! Thankfully, I have improved, the technology has improved and a few years ago I was introduced to a very 'friendly' little CAD programme! And I'm still learning after 27 years in this business.

The problem is when you do get out of this stage and start feeling you are good. When you know what you are, you cease to try finding it...

In essence it says one needs to persevere in order to reach ones goals, or have I simplified it too much?

I think it is more specific about what the process is like for creative work, but yeah. The I Ching is even more succinct: "Perseverance furthers."

to be honest (or- to be a spoilsport), i think beginners get told that all the time.

knowing that you'll reach a certain goal in x amount of years isn't really a solid driving force..
                  what's that about the journey..?

like-- i think most creatives moreorless enjoy the part when they suck too.

Being told and putting it into practice are a bit different don't you think?

                      yeah, totally different.
dunno, i was just responding to the video "nobody tells this to beginners".. as if telling someone they'll get better after time will make them not quit.

I'd just be happy with a dude that is good with his hands to be honest.
