[REQ] Symmetry tool
-
I would like to have something like the symmetry modifier in 3dsmax in SU.
It creates a plane which you can rotate for example 45 degrees to create a angled mirror of a object which is cut at the intersection.
Great for creating things like corner cabinets or corner windows.
See this page for some info: http://knowledge.autodesk.com/support/3ds-max/getting-started/caas/CloudHelp/cloudhelp/2015/ENU/3DSMax-Tutorial/files/GUID-42DD88AC-4988-4CBB-A3FE-6298B1ECC9B3-htm.html -

I use mirror by TIG regularily. Havent tried the other script.
I was thinking of a auto cut along mirror axis function included for better workflow. -
Cut an object is two seconds ! Call the Mirror and apply is 3 seconds! All is 5 seconds!
That avoid some headache to the ruby developper!
-
I can see adding a final rotational option (graphically on screen) would be a cool addition to the Mirror tool
-
Yes, and the Max modifier does it in a way so that you can change things afterwards but I guess that would be asking too much? Would it be doable with section cuts per object?
-
It would certainly be interesting if you could select a plane and have whatever geometry you draw appear reversed on the other side.
It can make such a difference sometimes seeing the symmetry as you design. -
It would be an interesting thing indeed. Of course it can already be done with the use of components.
-
Yes but I like the idea of doodling symmetrically and see what you get, rather than making flipped components to start with. Plus if everything was mirrored while tool is active. Raw geometry/components/arrays etc etc
-
Minor inconvenience.

Yes yes Dave I know I know, I often have models made of multiple flipped and twisted components. All I'm saying is it would be handy to be able to drop a plane into a complex model and know that whatever you drew on one side would appear on the other.
People want plugins to wipe their bums for them, can't I too? -
I know. And you should have that plugin.

Actually I think it would be cool, too.
-
...and having such a plugin could easily turn any linear object to a angled one.
Imagine doing a detailed window with all the frames and then, voila, it's a corner window.
