Component not retaining info
-
When a component is selected you have a few options in the Entity Info window. Layer, Name, Definition, Type and Volume.
If I add text to the "Name" text block and then "Right Click" component "save as" the info is not retained in the DC when it is reloaded from the Component Browser. This is only true on Parent Components. Child Components will retain this info. Anyone know why this is?

I can't reproduce the issue with either DC or standard, are you working with Dynamic Components or plain ole' Components, and would you mind sharing it?

A Dynamic Component has in effect THREE different names !
For ALL Components there is:
The Component's Definition name
It is the name used in the Component Browser.
It forms the default used in the save_as, but you can edit that before you save.If it is set in Entity Info you can have:
The Component's Instance name.
It is only seen in that, or exported data files.
It's default is 'empty', but can be set to be anything...
Note how a Group or an Image is a special kind of unique 'component definition', so then the Entity Info displays an 'instance-name', rather that its 'definition-name'.And for just Dynamic Components:
A separate DC-Name.
This is as displayed in the DC dialogs - it is not necessarily the same name as either of the other two names... -

Thanks for the replies. I also emailed the sketchup team with this. They said it is a know issue and the engineers are working on a solution.
Thanks again

It doesn't matter if it is a dynamic component or a regular component.
I attached a picture of the entity info box. The text box labeled "Name" is the area that doesn't retain the info.
I should have mentioned that I'm on a mac running the most recent version of sketchup pro.
When I generate a report that text box is defined as "Entity Name" or as @TIG describes "Instance name"

Ah, I see. I don't usually make any use of the actual "name" field, though I do frequently use the "definition" field quite often. Good to know it's a bug for that time when I do decide to use it.
Thanks!
