Hole through cavity walls
-
Hi all,
Just a quick question, does anyone knoww of a quick way to cut a hole (for a window or door)through a cavity wall. I see many plugins for a single wall, but here in the UK most of our walls are built of an outer wall, a 50mm cavity and an inner wall.
So if you want to show a plan view you need to follow this configuration. The way I do it at the moment is to create a block the same size as the window, push that through the wall and use the intersect faces tool.Any thoughts would be appreciated.

You can try my "HoleInTheWall" plugin on my blog.

Fredo is working in this: http://sketchucation.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=323%26amp;t=57873%26amp;start=1#p526758

Thanks Guys, it looks like Fredo is on the case, but I will have a look at your "hole in the wall" plugin sdmitch.
I appreciate the replies.

My 'Hole Punching Tool' also does multiple 'leaves' in the same context, and the punched-hole selects and moves with the cutting-component too... It will also punch holes into groups etc, BUT the paired-linking is more fraught!

VisuHole can cut holes though several groups and components. But it is far from being ready. At the moment, I am exploring algorithms to adjust hole directions on a curved surface, as shown in the video.

Your plugin look promising Fredo, but will it cut through two individula walls separated by a gap? As in the example shown by pcmoor above?
pcmoor not sure what you're showing me there, I'm not familiar with DC? Also the example you show doesn't cut through both walls. Please clarify if you would.
Thanks everyone, except pilou who is using the forum for advertising and should be banned!

VisuHole is designed to cut through the objects selected, regardless of whether they are connected or not. If all objects are enclosed in a top group or component, then selecting this top group / component will select all objects inside (VisuHole has anyway several options to adjust the selection)
So answer is Yes

That will certainly do the trick, can't wait... when can we have it????

Can we wish the same but like Boolean Diff ?
So "Screw" and "Srew thread " inside the wall;) -

Any news on when you might release VisuHole Fredo?

Unfortunately, I am not working on it at the moment.
And anyway, I still need some work to finish the algorithm and put a decent GUI. So not for this month I am afraid. Here is the last addition, where you can now pick shapes from faces, groups and components in the model to use as a stencil for digging or carving holes.

I think you're right dedmin.
