Constant 4 sec freezing
-
Dave, we could PM each other some examples of large files for scientific purposes, if you wish.
(privacy guaranteed of course) -
~7.2M edges, ~2.6M faces - a large model for sure.
But I see some of what you describe. I see that even with plugins disabled there is a couple of seconds delay to open the Edit menu under SU2014 while under SU2013 there isn't.
But I didn't notice delays elsewhere in the system. The plugins you mentioned didn't run any slower.
I'm going to file this in our issue tracker.

tt, the weirdest point is that v.13 behaves way better than the '14; hope it will be addressed in following updates.
I have also noticed degraded performance with 14. I have gotten MANY more error conditions (where it sent error reports to Trimble) that with 13. I also have noticed a significant delay when loading the program (in particular menus/toolbars take several seconds to load). I have tried uninstalling some plugins that I do not use frequently to see if it helped but that has not had much of a difference either.
Recently, I have also been getting a bunch of "Application Not Responding" messages and a couple times I have lost a fair amount of work. I have set the system to auto save every 30 minutes (had a shorter timeframe but it slowed things down too much) to try to stave off the problem.
Unfortunately, I uninstalled 13 so I can not go back to it. When you pay an annual fee to keep up with the latest version does not seem that there should be a reason to keep older versions around.
I had not commented before because I thought maybe others were not seeing some of these issues. In general, my impressions is that 14 is not as stable as 13 was. I very rarely ever use the warehouse so other than the upgrading of Ruby, I am not sure I see much difference between 13 & 14 other than more error messages being generated and sent it.
But then, I am not a power user either. Still consider that I am learning.

I guess there's some considerable improvement in navigation (orbiting and refreshing after 2d export) with shadows 'on'(in heavy models).
That was the main reason I migrated (too early unfortunately) to '14. -
Dave, do you have specific reproduction instructions? Like some action or operation you can reliably see the difference?
Also, do you see these performance/stability issues without Plugins enabled?
You say you sent error reports - you mean BugSplats? Did you enter any details into that which we can use to look them up? -

Strange. -

You say you sent error reports - you mean BugSplats? Did you enter any details into that which we can use to look them up?Unfortunately I have to admit that many times I did not put notes about what was going on when I had the problems. I can tell you that I have never detected any type of pattern and have not been able to reproduce the problems. Again unfortunately they seemed to happen when I was under a little time pressure and needed to get the job done. I can also say that I did not see any of this with 13.
I do isometric drawings for a company that builds car washes. I built most of the parts/components with 13. Most of the work I have been doing with 14 is put together layouts/models of the proposed carwash so they can show the client what the carwash will look like. I have had problems when adding components to they layout, updating styles, rotating equipment/components to fit in the new layout, modifying existing components for something that is unique to the new layout, and etc. Again, I see no consistency as to when the problems occur.
I will be more diligent going forward about adding notes to he BugSplats going forward.
I have uninstalled some plugins and see no to little difference in loading the software and have not noticed any difference in the error conditions after having removed those plugins that I do not use very frequently.

Even just a keyword that we can use to look up a specific crash related to this discussion.

Since it has not happened for several days now, nothing comes to mind. As I said, it was very inconsistent as to when things would happen. I promise that as I move forward when things happen again I will be more diligent in adding information about what I was doing when I have the problem.

I can assure you that BugSplats are looked into. You don't have to enter info about every crash, but at least the new ones you experience. Then just keep on submitting every crash you get - it all gets added to our crash stats.

(MS x64/Win7/8gb ram)
Was experiencing very similar symptoms....freezing for a few seconds in varying operations.
(behavior reminds me of when an auto-save kicks in on a large file)File size W/O imported .png plans elevations = only 1MB SU file.
I mention the file size w/o the imported .png images because they seemed to be the culprit.
(removing them from the file cured the delay....fyi: max tex on/off had no effect)Note:
I had 4 Arch D sheets in .pdf format (scanned) and saved them out of Adobe Acrobat Pro to .png file format. Then, imported them to SU for tracing over/etc.
I do not recall any initial delays/freezing.......but the delays/freezing seemed to progress in time and frequency as I built up the model.Eventually the delay/freezing became irritating and having the model far enough along I deleted (& purged) the imported .png images.
As soon as I did so the delay/freezing stopped occuring.
Before deleting the .png images I tried closing/opening sketchup as well as resarting the computer....thinking a memory leak or some such........in each case no performance improvement.
Anyway.....I think I could replicate the situation by re-loading the .png images....and possibly sharing the file if/as with Trimble folks.
Best,
Charlie

I notice a lot of freezing too. I thought it was just Sketchup doing the autosave thing but then I realized I am experiencing more freezes than I was in SU8. It lasts a few seconds then everything is back to normal. I notice it the most when loading components and sometimes when I'm orbiting the view. I will keep an eye to see if I can spot a pattern.

I'm having the exact same issue, with the "Edit" menu causing a 4 second freeze every time I click on it, or even pass over it accidentally (eg, if I clicked on the "File" menu then moved the cursor to the right so it scrolled over the "Edit" menu.
Does anyone know if this bug has this been fixed? Is there maybe a patch or upgrade that I can download to fix it? It's very annoying.
I noticed from other replies in this threat that it has happened with large models for some people, but in my case the model isn't that large: about 10 MB.
If there is no fix for it, can someone please tell me how can I download V13 again, and switch back to that? I can't carry on working like this, as it interferes with my workflow, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have the exact same problem here. Everytime I hit "EDIT" I get a small freeze.

This is a regression bug in SU2014. Look for a fix in the next release.

Great! Thanks very much for letting me know.
There's another bug that might be related: In previous versions of SketchUp, in the "Layers" window if you change the name of an existing layer or add a new layer, that one stayed selected after pressing "Enter". With 2014, after you press enter nothing is selected (not even Layer0), and focus jumps back to the top of the window. This makes it much harder to edit several related layers one after the other, which used to be very simple, especially when there are many dozens of layers in the model.
Should I create a new thread for this bug, or is it OK to report it here?
Also, where can I download SketchUp 2013 so I can re-install it, until the bug fix comes out?

I had been using Version 8 with no issues on this machine but had some time at work to play with a design so I installed Version 2014. Got home and couldn't open it so needed to upgrade to 2014 on the desktop. Every time I click on MainMenu>Edit the program freezes for several seconds, sometimes crashes completely, but it never opens the Edit menu. Very frustrating. Hate to have to start the design from scratch. I eventually deleted all imported object and just saved the basic wireframe. File is under 18mb. Still have the same issue. Tried reparing the installation, no luck. Tried downloading and reinstalling twice, no luck. Anyone have any suggestions to fix this?
My computer is new, I have no issues with any other program (Adobe, etc) and am at a loss.
Best - Kevin
