Is anyone else experiencing this? I'm running a relatively uncomplicated model (5mb) but every time I go to "Edit" things freeze, load for a few seconds and then not open at all. SU 2014 doesn't crash but I can't open "Edit"...

Just some stuff I do with Sketchup.

Something sounds very odd but You might need to be a bit more specific for anyone to be able to diagnose the problem.
For example as I read this I'm working on a 50mb file without any issues, even shadows only make it lag slightly. As you can see from the attached image it has quite a bit going on.

Is this a new install of 2014, how have you installed your plugins, what plugins have you installed, have you checked your graphics card drivers are up to date so many possible questions.......

        2.3million faces! Nice work

GPU drivers are up to date but your point about plugins is a valid one - I simply dumped my plugins from the old folder into the new one - will investigate.

        Thanks for your suggestions

Empty your plugin folder and install all fresh from the SU pluginstore and Extension warehouse.

This is not a good thing to do. SU2014 takes advantage of Ruby 2.0 but that means that many plugins required updating to meet the standard. As Box, said, dump the old plugins and install fresh via the Sketchucation Plugin Store and Extension Warehouse.

A few aren't in the plugin store but I guess it just means that everything will have to run through the plugin store now - thanks for your help.

It doesn't mean they have to be run through the Plugin Store. They just have to be compatible with Ruby 2.0 The majority of plugins are available through the Plugin Store or through the Extension Warehouse and both make installing plugins easy and fast.

As Dave says, many of the EW & PluginStores versions are now compatible with v2014 - some just 'were' already!
If you have 'other' plugins from elsewhere - and there are no obvious updates available - then you can try moving copies over... but do them individually, and restart after each one is added, to see if that new addition breaks v2014.
If it produces errors, then disable that plugin and contact the author about an update 😕
