      Hi,

I'm experiencing that SketchUp takes 30 seconds (timed) to save my modest 2,1 MB model to my MacBook Air's 150-200 MB/s SSD (tested under same conditions). The model consists of 9668 edges, 3085 faces of which 242 components and 84 groups. And there are two textures in the model.

I can't figure out why it takes so long, and it really decreases my efficiency, especially with auto-save turned on. Auto-save has over and over again shown it's good value (even on a daily basis in periods, when my models and SU has often been disagreeing with each other), so I would prefer to keep this running and fix the slow saving issue.

Are any of you experiencing the same kind problems, even after upgrading to Trimble's 2013 version?

      Cheers,
      Fredrik

Is it a model you could share here, so others can see if they experience similar results?

          Hi Chris,

          Thanks for your reply.

It's no problem sharing the model, but as I copied the model to my "Public" dropbox-folder to make you a link, the problem seems to have disappeared during duplicating, moving and renaming. I opened the model (Model.skp) to check it before sending it, deleted one single line and saved. Now saving only takes about two seconds, with the duplicated model.

I tried to make the same adjustments in the original model (Opptegnet 0,3.skp), but the saving still took about 30 seconds. I tried changing the filename to "Model.skp", doing the same adjustment again, and this seems to have worked in the same location, with the original file. I've renamed it back to "Opptegnet 0,3.skp" again now, and it seems to work fine still.

I can't make much sense of this, but I'm happy that it seems to work fine.

I'll let the model stay in my public-folder for a couple of days if you still want to have a look at the file.

That is peculiar. And yes, the model I downloaded from your link is saving quite fast on my machine as well.

Glad it has sorted itself out, sorry for the previous difficulties though,

            Chris

I have same problem occasionally with SU 2013. I just tried renaming file and now it saves fast again. In same file copying multiple elements while moving and clicking CTRL caused SketchUp to lag a lot. After I renamed file everything works fine. I will test it again if same problem appears.
              Thanks.

In SU Pro 2013 I noticed the same problem while working on a small 2.5 Mb file with several textures in it.

                • While in 'shaded' mode and with 'shadows on or off' -> saving is instant on the SSD.
                • While in 'shaded with textures' mode and with 'shadows on' -> saving takes about 17 seconds
                • While in 'shaded with textures' mode but with 'shadows off' -> saving takes about 11 seconds

So as long as I don't <cntrl>-S out of habit I'm fine but would be nice if this could be fixed.

I think I may have found a solution (at least for the problem I experienced):

disable 'redefine thumbnail on save' in 'model info - file'.
Saving is instantly again in any display mode.

                  greetings

Great tip, my large files now save within around 3 seconds compared to 20.
                      Cheers πŸ‘

Well saving here took really like 5-10 minutes (on 2xSSD in RAID0) with a model of 10MB (but with lots of detail).

With your tip it's saving within a second. Great tip and you're my hero of the day. I'm not sure what 2014 does but it really seems a bug in SU 2013.

                        Thanks!! πŸ‘
