Exporting as a PDF
-
Hi, I've only just started using layout after upgrading to the pro version of Sketchup. I've battled for most of the day to put an acceptable couple of pages together for a client, nothing very complicated - just some fitted wardrobes, and now I'm trying to print/export them as a PDF so I can send them to him.
This should be straightforward and I have managed to export it, the problem is that the images on page 2 are not visible in the PDF. Can anyone help, as far as I know I imported the images in exactly the same way, cropped them with a clipping mask just as I did with the ones on page 1, they are there in the Layout file but won't show in the PDF.
Hopefully,
Jason

if you like post the file here to have a look and see if can help

make sure the images are on the top layer and that they did not get transparency set on them.
I don't use the Layout export PDF option. I use a printer emulator such as PDF995 http://www.pdf995.com/ and just print to PDF. The Layout PDF's are frickin massive... some of mine end up being 300 megs. then I print to a pdf emulator and get 10-20megs files. no loss of detail.
i have not tried to export to PDF within layout 2013, so maybe they have fixed that issue by now.

Hi Juan,
I've attached the file, thanks very much. As I said before, the file really isn't that complicated, it's just to show the client some options and I could just print these views off for him but I thought I'd try and use it as a learning exercise to get to know Layout.....it ha definitely proved to be one! I suspect having trawled a bit through some discussions on this forum that being new to layout I've done a few things wrong along the way which the software has taken exception to.... but maybe not!
Any help would be very welcome!
Hi Krisidious,
As far as I can tell the images are on the top layer and have no transparency set on them (although I'm not really sure where to turn this on or off and can find no mention of it in the help manual/online so maybe they are transparent?!) As I said, I'm new to Layout so apologies if I'm being very basic!
I've tried exporting it and also printing it with CutePDF and the result is identical with both.
Thanks for both your help,
Jason

I can't upload the Layout file as it is too large but here's a link to it:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k1jr05wx58btmuv/Donaldson%20Wardrobes.%20Basic%20%28C%29.layout
Thanks again. -
hi JasonHeap
please post the Layout file better so to test it -
Has the link not worked? I can't upload the Layout file as it is 20mb and the limit is 4mb. Any other suggestions if the link is no good?
Thanks,
Jason

yes its ok , i´ve got it .
I think there is something mixed up in the second page because it prints ok in vector and hybrid mode and when you try to put it again in raster it just does not show anything . So i think it must be something of the clipping mask you made . Try to re do it again and see what happens .cheers

The problem is that you aren't using scenes in SketchUp to define the viewports in LayOut. Basically, you're doing it wrong. I looked at your model and couldn't find any thing that looks like what your second page shows. After making scenes for both the perspective view and the elevation, it works fine.
Your SketchUp model could use a bit of help, too.

Thanks Juan, I have tried re-doing it several times but to no avail. Having read some of Dave R's posts on other discussions I guess I'm trying to run before I can walk with this programme and will have to work through a few more tutorials if I ever find 5 minutes! I'll muddle through exporting JPEGs to Photoshop to create a decent looking page for now I think as time is of the essence but thank you all for your help.
Dave R, I know the Sketchup drawing is ropey, it was only ever intended to present some basic ideas to a potential client, not as a full blown working model with components etc. Then again, I'm self taught on Sketchup too so I'm sure I don't do everything correctly on that too! Any chance you want a pupil?!
Thanks again everyone,
Jason

Jason, absolutely! I can use another pupil. Send me a PM and we'll work it out.
You don't need to export images from SU to use in LO for this sort of thing although if you are using any sort of sketchy styles, you can manage better, higher res images that way. The key thing, even for something intended to give the client a quick idea is to not get sloppy. Make scenes in SU to use in LO, stay on top of face orientation and use components so changes can be easily and quickly changed.
