Replacing .rb with .rbz
-
Hi! I've been downloading several plug-ins for SketchUp from the new Plug-In Store. My question -- do I need to delete the "corresponding" .rb files located in the SketchUp plug-in folder in the Program Files directory? Thanks for your feedback. Jo

No. You don't need to delete them. In fact deleting them would undo the installation of the plugins.
The .rbz files are really just zip files that contain the .rb file you want plus support fules such as icon images and other things. the RBZ extension is just what SketchUp or the Plugin Store plugin is looking for when automatically installing the downloaded plugins.
Unless you are having difficulty with plugins not loading correctly, just leave the files in the Plugins folder alone.

RBZ files do NOT belong in the Plugins folder.
You must 'install' RBZ archives.
In >=v8M2 Preferences > Extensions there's an 'Install...' button.
Click that. find the RBZ archive and its contents are automatically installed correctly into your Plugins folder, overwriting any earlier versions in the process.
As you seem a little installationally-challenged can I suggest you get the 'SketchUcation Plugin Store' from the PluginStore...
You will have to install it using its RBZ archive, but then after that all of the SCF PluginStore's contents are available to you from a dialog that opens from within SketchUp itself... You can search, list by popularity, recent etc. Get More Info from the plugn's main page, make Donations to authors AND the best bit a single click 'AutoInstall' the plugins, without even having to worry about the RBZ archive [although you will be asked at the ed if you want to save a copy of it to your disk...]
The dialog's toolbar comes with two SketchUcation 'Managers' that let you Disable and Load [Temporarily or Permanently] your Plugins and Extensions...
Version 1.2.0 'waits in the wings' - it will have even simpler UI and operation plus some enhanced features... but the current version is well worth getting immediately... -
Thank you Dave! I was able to straighten out the issue yesterday. Also, thank you TIG. I have all the resources downloaded and installed properly. Many thanks for all your input! Jo Ann
