2013 PROBLEMS
-
Hi,
I am having trouble exporting 2d dxf and dwg files for CNC cutting. Every time I try and export Sketchup crashes. When I reopen the program it opens the crashed file not a blank file and asks me to input my serial number, key and user name. I got bored after attempt 15 so I thought I would see if anyone else was having this problem. I tried downloading a separate dxf exporter from the plugin warehouse. This works but when I open the dxf in Auto cad to check it all, the notation text has disappeared!!!
Also migrating my plugins over from Sketchup 8 has been a real ball ache. i have managed to find most of my plugins but some don't work, Weld for instance does nothing even though Its installed right from the EW. I cant find any of the scripts from Fredo 6 in the EW either and when i try and migrate them from the sketchup 8 plugins folder it says they are not supported. Also I had a plugin called something like BZ Convert - it basically converted lines and curves to polylines and bezier curves etc. I only know the name from the drop down menu on the right click. I cant find it anywhere now, its not in the EW and a google seach throws up nothing can anyone help me out on what this plugin was originally called.
Oh and one other gripe is why change the orbit tool icon? I know it seems like a small thing but I don't like the look of it.

I can't answer the question about exporting CAD files except to say I haven't had any problems with that.
As to the plugins, you shouldn't be migrating plugins from a previous version of SketchUp. Download and install fresh versions. There have been some changes that required many plugins to be updated. Install the SCF Plugin Store and install the plugins you need from that or from the Extension Warehouse.
I don't believe Fredo's plugins are on the EW. I have only gotten them from here on SCF.

and the BZ one is Bezier Spline by fredo6

Ok,
S0 I think I worked out why the export was crashing, As soon as I took the text notation off of the model (cut list number requirements etc) the export was fine. Could anyone else try a test with a few basic 2d shapes and some text to see if it crashes. Then I can work out if its just me having this problem. thanksLuke

I can't recreate it using a simple model of my own making. Could you upload one that is crashing for you?

So here is the original file with text notation, its all set up in parallel projection and i want to export at full dxf or dwg for autocad 2007 and before. every time I do it it thinks about it and then crashes, then when I reopen sketch up it opens the crashed file and asks for my license info!!!
However take the text notation off and it works fine!!! weird

Works fine for me in v2013 PC - with text.
You could try with the text still in the SKP but with ir excluded from the exported data by using 'options' for the exporter.
You could also purge the SKP file before exporting - it does contain some unused stuff...
What 'font' is the text in originally ? -
This is really weird now.
I thought I would make a video so you could see whats happening on my screen. I started running a quick time screen capture and went through the process of exporting the file. It worked no problem no crash. I thought oh well no need to send the video so deleted it. I then thought Ill just check the file. Opened it in Auto Cad and lo and behold no text!!!!
I went back to sketch up and tried the export again, and it crashed immediately. So I thought I would do another screen capture video this time setting up a file from scratch and once again it worked fine, but no text when opened in auto cad, see attached video for info. And thanks TIG i did purge the file but that does not seem to help. What could be going wrong?
Thanks
Luke

Had you included your OS etc in your User-Profile you might have got a MC user's response...
Perhaps it's an issue with v2013 MAC exporter and text ?
Can I suggest you get in touch directly with SketchUp's support side - as a Pro user you should get an answer - even if it's only, "It's a known bug on MACs, we are working on it..."
