Scale tool - change size in a certain direction
-
Is it able to change the size of an object with the scale tool in a certain direction with a certain value?
As far as I know it is only possible to change the size in a certain direction by typing in a percental value (like 0,5 for 50%), an other option is to type in a certain value (like 150mm), β but I often would like to change (increase or decrease) the size in a certain direction with a certain value, as for instance +/- 50 mm.
I tried to type in +50 mm in the measurements toolbar but that did not work. Is it still somehow possible?

Use the Tapemeasure tool to drag off a guide line parallel to an axis/axial-side, at 50mm off the object in question, now Scale and snap to the guide lien. The object is now 50mm bigger/smaller in that direction

Well, I had this idea myself, but this green/red dragging cubes won't the hell snap to the point where I'd like them to snap to, they either jump far over or far before.

Wait until the cursor's tooltip over the guide says 'on line', then click, you can just click on the line an hope it's spotted - wait for the tooltip !
The scaling should extend exactly to the guide... it does for me.
Can you post something that's not working with step by step what you do - I suspect that you aren't doing it right -
THX for the help, the problem is "the error" occurred in an exercise which I have already deleted, so I can not reproduce this specific situation where it did "not snap", but I had this issue already several times, the next time I have it I will reactivate this thread.
That you suspect that I am not doing it right is my suspicion too β I am mostly right with that.

If things aren't snapping properly it is often because you have length snapping set too large or you are modelling too small for your settings. You can adjust the Precision in Window Menu/Model info/Units. If you are modelling too small it will jump over lines. So either scale your model up or adjust the precision.

If you also type the unit (say 50mm) when entering the value while scaling, it will scale to that size exactly (not 50% or 50x as large).
