Yeah those although..... I've found a couple of emitters work well with stainless, it's a tricky material. I have used a circular array of emitters and one emitter above with good success.
Problem is the monotone appearance of stainless in a rendered scene can look unnatural. In the real world we never really see it in a pure black and white scenario; there's often a streak of colour from the surroundings and it becomes familiar to us. I've found any hint of colour introduced on the metal surface immediately improves realism and detail.
Why not try using a HDRI at very low intensity....so you can just about get a hint of colour and use your emitter planes to really draw focus. Even adding a low intensity coloured plane can add realism in the steel.
Just thoughts...

With small objects like this HDRIs aren't always effective. I think you wold be better off with emitters that imitate a studio environment. Relight comes in really handy when you do that as well - changing emitter colour and intensity to create different moods.

Thanks Oli, I sourced some nice HDRs but still looking for a striking B&W images....

It's just asking for a macro shot.
Yeah sorry it occurred to me after that maybe you wanted a monochrome image.

Btw if you want to create a own virtual studio using HDR textured light source models, then Lightsmith Collection at http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html is a good start.

Nice work, Rich
Boy, those bring back memories! Memories of being forced to shave every dang day I was in the Air Force, when all I really wanted to do is grow a beard
Do they even still make those?
