When i select a component in my component browser, sometimes sketchup places the component automatically, and sometimes it snaps to my mouse cursor, and i can place it wherever i want.
Does somebody know where this "option" is?

Well, usually this latter "behaviour" would be normal. If you select the component and do not release it with the Move tool (which is automatically activated) but keep dragging and you then click where you want to place it, it should "stick" to your cursor.

If you select a component and it is automatically placed, is it in the right place? Very likely the component is geo-located. Components that are not geo-located will attach to the cursor which will be the Move tool. The attachment is the insertion point of the component and is determined by the location of the component's origin. this can be moved through Change Axes in the Context menu.

As Dave says... this recently came up in some other discussions elsewhere.
If you make a component by using a SKP that is geo-located then that component will insert at the origin when first selected from the Component Browser.
It it is not geo-located [the usual state of affairs] then when you insert it, it is initially attached to the cursor, until you pick its location.
So ensure the component is not geo-located unless you want this auto-placement behavior...
The simple way is to select the geometry etc and make the component in your SKP... then do a 'Save_as' on it... it then saves as an external SKP without being geo-located, irrespective of the host SKP's settings...
Saving an entire model as a component will give it the current geo-location settings...

To avoid issues like this ensure that your 'default template' is not geo-located, but you can always have a second one that is, if that would be of use...

              Ah yes, geolocated models, surely.
