I would like to export characters that I've created in poser to sketchup.

To do this, I have to reduce poly, because the characters are to highpoly for SU. I think meshlab is a good choice to do that.

I tried different things but I had no success to import low poly characters with textures in SU.

Has anybody tried that too and could give me some advices?

Artisan plugin has a tool to reduce polygons but the texture will get screwed. So you will have to make new UV’s. I believe TGI 3D plugin has a tool to make UV’s but don’t know if it will tackle a complex geometry properly.
        Good luck!

I just came to this idea, because I've seen such great characters in 3ds format at archive3d.net. They look like created in max or poser or a program like that. I have many nice characters in poser in I would like to see them in my scenes. I have even problems to export them from poser to obj or 3ds, because they are to heavy. I think there must be a way to reduce them in an early stage of process. All these things should happen before importing them to sketchup because they are much to highpoly.

I tried makehumen some years ago but that brought me to poser/DAZ Studio because there are much more posibilties.

frankly, you won't do it. I use Poser and Sketchup together as well, and basically, SU cannot handle the Poly counts of the simplest poser figure in any useful fashion. (Eg Posette, the basic Poser 4 human female, she's 40,000 polys, that's without clothes... a Victoria 3 or 4 is 60-90K)

you need to reverse your thinking and go the other way. SU to Poser. it's easy enough with the OBJ export scripts or if you have poserpro, Collada.

I tried that also, but I was missing my materials from twilight render. I'm not really into firefly.

In the past I rendered the scene in SU/twilight and the characters in poser and merged it together in Photoshop.

Maybe I should look a bit better at firefly.

I´m afraid that they´re almost unusable unless you go for some serious poly-reduction. Or in that case you´re better of starting from scratch 😕

                Have you tried MakeHuman?

                Comfortably numb...

                  here's an example:

room modelled in su and rendered in twilight.
                  person rendered in poser.
                  merged together in photoshop
