Followme problem with semi circle
-
Hello everybody
I have attached two images and the skp file also. My staff is learning sketchUP and she was trying to do an exterior view of a dining cabinet. When she tried to do the half round nosing using a semicircle as followme, sometimes she gets results with a lot of lines on the curved surface, sometimes there are no lines on the curved surface. The methodology used is the same. Can anybody help in finding out the problem. I too tried this out with the same results. We are using Su 7.1 on Windows XP-SP3.
Thanks in advance

hi PRSS,
i think its exploded curve that causes the lines...
u can fix it by using the WELD plugin. -
As has been said...
Curves give smooth Surfaces when extruded with FollowMe or PushPull etc.
Curves include Arcs, Circles and Curves made by scripts like Bezier-Curves and any collection of Edges joined using Weld [or some other similar tools, e.g ReCurve].
A Curve is just a collection of Edges bound in a special way - e.g. they always Select/Erase as if they were one object.
The created Surface will still have Edges at changes of plane, but these are automatically 'Smoothed'.
If you change your View > Hidden Geometry toggled 'on' you'll see them dotted.
Note that these are not quite the same as 'hidden lines', which will leave a sharp change in shading at that Edge - Smoothed/Softened Edges just 'shade' more smoothly...If you Explode a Curve it becomes a set separate of plain Edges.
Any other collection of plain Edges will extrude and leave visible Edges in any new Surfaces.
To change this either Weld these Edges into a Curve before extruding using it, or afterwards you can Select the Surface and right-click context-menu 'Smooth'...
Note how you can also reverse a Surface's Smoothing by sliding the control in the 'Smooth' dialog towards 0, which can also have it's uses. You can Smooth individual Edges at any time by using the tool Erase+Ctrl.
You can also Hide an Edge [see above regarding the differences] using Erase+Shift and unhide them [assuming Hidden-Geometry is 'on'] using Erase+Shift+Ctrl.
Selected Edges can also be Hidden/Unhidden usig the right-clcik context-menu.
There is no equivalent 'Unsmooth' - however, if Hidden-Geometry is 'on' you can Select Smoothed Edges and using Entity Info change their Smooth/Soft status [and also their Hidden status too]. -
Thank you jenujacob and TIG. This has really solved my problem - that is by welding - though I knew all the other techniques which TIG has kindly narrated. Thanks again to both of you.
jenujacob ! Nice to hear from you after a long, long, time!
With best regards
