Manifold solid
-
Hi All
I am trying to slice up a model to cut on my CNC. Apparently the part is not a manifold solid. What is a manifold solid, and why isn't my model one? And, how do I make it one?
Thanks in advance.

Here's an explanation of manifold, AKA "Solid".
You can use Thomthom's excellent Solid Inspector to help you find holes.

Thanks!
Found it a fixed it.

Nice! Good luck on the rest of the project.

We love to see finished pieces -if you can post pics when its done that'd be great!

I gather you are using 8Pro and not 7.1 as per your profile?

My 'Slicer5' [from whence the error message comes?] only works with >=v8 so you must be using that ?
A 'solid' [manifold] group is one that contains only faces and their edges, forming a continuous imperforate surface.
Every edge must have two faces - no fewer and no more.
So that means no 'unfaced' edges, no 'flaps', no 'holes', no internal 'partitions'.
'Solid-Inspector' shows that one end has some tiny 'flap' fringes around it.
If you then Erase those edges the geometry when grouped is shown as 'solid' in Entity Info: alternatively you might want to PushPull the end-face out by the tiny amount to subsume these flap-faces into the main surfaces - this will make the two matching end-faces in line, which is probably what's required ??Incidentally you have modeled the whole thing 'inside out' - select one face and context-menu Reverse it, then Orient the rest to match - remember that the 'blue' back-faces go inside objects - the front-faces look outwards...

v8, not pro. I'll change the profile.
