            It can't be done using one distorted component, because as the instances scale they no longer line up with their smaller neighbor, getting progressively misaligned...
            If you explode it you can tweak all of the vertices of the parts so the all align smoothly...
            BUT there are hundreds to do...
            A nautilus is not always a perfect Fibonacci spiral anyway... and as you say the cell dividers are curved in 3d too...
            It could be coded - but I am NOT going to do it...

                  Jeff, could you or someone else who gets it, explain the use of curviloft for this model (your model, a few posts back). Your pic did not do it justice; very nice model, I think.

                    i actually did 4 different surfaces (breaking each one down into input that curviloft can understand..)

                    individual surfaces still grouped.. prior to exploding & soften/smooth

                        Oh, I think I see the smaller arc now. So, 2 arcs and the spiral path?

                        No... I mean yes, but no faces as I had thought but did not say.

                        And news to me, the beginning and ending arcs (profiles, 'contours' as Fredo calls them) need not touch the path; in this case they would break the curve so that is fortunate.

                        So, I did OK but for the wrong reversal. Please advise. (Looking closer I see there are other errors: lack of closure, intersections, etc..)

                          I saw a twitch in this horse's left nostril. Besides, chambered nautilii really don't look like this. This one is with 'follow me and rotate': settings: rotate 0, scale 1.03; 24 segment face flat helix.
