Plugin for orienting faces??
-
Is there any plugin to match two faces orientation [by rotating a face]. so that they become coplanar?
I want to rotate the moulding profile to match the wall orientation for proceeding 2 follow me command

Hi John, hi folks.
If you rotate the moulding so that it become coplanarwith a wall, it will not be possible to use the Follow me tool. The face to be followed along a path needs to be perpendicularto the path.
Using the Rotate tool makes it easy to rotate a face (moulding profile, for example) to be perpendicular to a wall.
The best, however, is to create the moulding on a plane that is perpendicular to the wall.
Another possibility is to create a component with the moulding profile that has its axes oriented so that it will automatically attach itself to the wall in a perpendicular way.

there's an align plugin...

thank you for the tut skp

Orienting faces in SketchUp is a basic skill that shouldn't require a plugin.

I understood him to mean "position relative to something else" not sketchup "orient faces" as in back/front...

I understood the same thing and that is what I was referring to.

well, yes, move and rotate are pretty basic things to learn, I agree. It can be very tedious sometimes, which is why the align plugin is great. But of course you have to know the basics first...

I Tried align plugin but how to define y axis when the moulding is just a plane.?? the y axis is a line perpendicular to it. iv seen the video ..it holds good for solids only ain't it?

Learn to use the Rotate tool properly and quit chasing plugins. Move the molding profile to the starting end of the Follow Me path, While the molding profile is selected, get the Follow Me tool and, using your illustration as the example, make sure the tool shows in blue. There are several ways to do that. Hold Shift if you need to lock the tools plane of rotation. Move the tool to the corner of the molding and rotate the thing to align with the back face on the object around which you are running the molding. You could have this done in the time it takes to find a plugin in a menu.
If your molding profiles are components you can determine the orientation they have when you bring them in. Set them up so they are in the orientation in which you are most likely to use them so you're less likely to need to rotate them at all.

Well, just like Dave says, with a little practising, it is not hard to align your profiles perpendicular to your paths. There is a plugin however...

Looking back over your posts it seems you're trying to run before you can walk.
There's tons of videos and tutorials on the forums. Spend the time to browse around as your topics have already been covered time and time again.
BTW, your IP is showing both Chicago, Salt Lake City and Delhi. You've got one fast plane.

or a proxy server...
similar to your spate of questions in vray. The last three advices are spot on. Learn the basics first by going through the available tutorials. There are really good ones out there for both sketchup and vray. I'm pretty confident in saying that everyone who knows what they are doing here on this forum benefitted from them in the beginning. I certainly did when I started out.
Best,

thanks u everyone. perpendicular face plugin is nice..and yeah sorry i need 2 learn a lot before asking qs . regarding locations Iv gotta cousin name Vinit in Chicago who's also into SU, we share questions so instead of creating 2 different ones, we thought to share an account, i'll confirm if he had used a proxy since i got no idea about the salt lake city thing. I'm live in Delhi. regarding vray i've seen chaosgroup and asgvis videos but still my renders are flat. can anyone suggest good source for lighting examples..as my renders look like oldschool 3dsmax default plastic renderings

are you on the chaosgroup website? If not, you should be - as you can read any of Fernando's posts and you will come away knowing more. You really should watch some of his tutorials, valerostudio has pointed them out already.
well im not there as im using vray demo. i was there earlier but since they changed their policy i have lost the right to access their forums. however i can read but can't post my queries. i'm there.
