Multiple groups and changing entity info
-
Hi guys,
I have just inherited a sketchup file and the previous person has made a stairway with a vast amount of groups. These groups have been assigned to different entity info(layers). I was hoping to find out if there is a quick way to grab all groups and change every individual group, face and edge to a single layer, without having to dig deep into every group and change individually.
Much appreciated if anyone can help.

If you delete a Layer [or highlighted Layers] in the Layer Manager, then the resultant dialog lets you assign any entities that WERE using the Layer[s] to now use Layer0.
Depending how many Layers there are this is probably OK, although my
default_layer_geometry.rb
will do it en mass for all groups/definitions, useful for zillions of Layers... http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=47033#p47033 -
Hi Steve, hi folks.
Select All should select all groups. Or do a window select or any other select action if you don't want all of them an also don't want to select other geometries not contained in the groups that you want to reassign to a new layer.
With the groups selected, pull down the Layer list from the Layer Toolbar.
Choose the required layer in the list.
Done.
Another possibility is to delete the unwanted layers. All the stuff they contain can be transfered to the current layer or the default layer.
A trick that seems to be not widely known is that you can select mutiple layers, in the Layer window or course, with the use of the SHIFT key or the CTRL key, as you usually do to select files in a folder using Windows Explorer, for example.
With the SHIFT key, click on one layer and then SHIFT click on another. These two and anyone between these two will be selected. Delete the selected layers as usual.
With the CTRL key, click on one layer then press and hold down the CTRL key and click in succession on all the other layers that you want to select, even if the choice is not contiguous. When all the layers have been selected, release the CTRL key and then delete the layers as usual.
Just ideas.

Thank you very much for the speedy replies, Tig I am going to download your plugin as it sounds exactly the tool I need, thank you very much. Jean I selected all the layers and changed the layer info but it still seemed to keep the unwanted layer info within the group when I opened to edit them. I need to keep the groups as they are as its an intricate stairway and I have a feeling when I send it back he will still need maximum editability, thank you for the other info, It will be stored and used in future.
