      Hi All,

I have designed a horn consisting of 4 curved surfaces, each surface being a triangle with curved sides.

The curves are results of formulas generated in excel and imported as point cloud (and than made into surfaces)
The resolution of the point cloud is very high (1mm point, total length is 500mm) so I have a lot of surfaces. I need this high precission because of acoustic reasons.

      My question is;

I have the model complete now and I want to build the horn walls out of bend wood.
To get a cut sheet for this I need to "flatten" or "unroll" the walls to be a flat plane.

I tried flattery to do this, but this seems very cumbersome. Any ideas how to do this?

      Thanks in advance,
      Kees

Do these walls currently have thickness? If not, have you tried Jim Foltz' Unfold?
If yes, extract outer shell as component and work on that with unfold. Do this with each section of the horn.
If you are looking for dimensions, you could select copy move, Weld, right click on composite edge query Entity Info in the right click menu but you may get the ~ approx symbol.

        Maybe I misunderstood your needs?

I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

Another way... [considering you are making a physical model and 1mm is optimistic!]
Is to use Slicer to make some formers across the 'horn' at say 25mm c/c.
Cut these from ply and build a 'former' around a central spine.
Add a roughly cut over-sized sheet to one face, temporarily tacked in place and then trimmed to match the 'former' on both of its edges.
Repeat on an adjoining side scribing the abutting edge.
Trim the other edge of this second side to the 'former'.
Repeat for all four sides gluing the sides together - avoiding attaching it to the 'former' pieces.
Remove the temporary tacking and take out the former - if the shape is very convoluted make the central spine removable [wedges?] and remove the 'slices' individually...
