    Hi,
    I have recieved the "unexpected file format" on a file that i was working on before restarting my computer, after that, almost all of the files i have worked on over the month shows the same message. it is a large model, 57.8MB.

    i copy the files to my mac and it doesn't work either.

    i am more than frustrated.
    is there any way to recover my file?

    Thomas

      I realize this is a fatal problem.
      I guess i just need to rebuild the model all over again.
      hope i will still be alive tomorrow.

        This condition does not make sense. Unless you did a "save as" with a different default extension somehow?

        I take the slow, deliberate approach in my aimless wandering.

          For a model that size I would not give up so quickly. Depending on how you have the options set in window preferences general you can have the last saved version, the version you are working on and a auto save version. If the SU application is closed normally the auto save version is deleted, it is to protest form crashes, and you will have the back up and the version you just saved. If you trying to open the backup version it will have a different file extension and can cause the error message. Check the file extension and see if it is xxxxx.skb. To open right click and open with or change the file extension to xxxxx. skp and try to open the way you normally do. Do a global search for files *.skp and see if you can find the file version you last saved.
          Just some thoughts;
          Good Luck

            mac1, and mitcorb beat me to the post, but since I have already written it:

            You have no backup? How about a FileName.skb? In the future, on a daily basis, you might want to open and save to FineNameXX.skp where XX is a consecutive number. Of course, you need to delete the earlier files from time to time. As you can see, I have lost files too, and its procedures like this that have saved my btt many times.

              That same thing happened to me. There was no way to open the file and I asked someone here in the forum (Gaieus) for help. I uploaded the file, he opened it without problems and kindly sent me back a copy (with some recomendations to have a cleaner model ☀ ).
              I still don't know what was the cause, but you could try...
