Making 3D from a Black and white image
-
I am looking for a way (plugin) to create a 3d form from a simple black and white image.
It is a simple extrusion of a LOGO but I want it to fit precisely the image...
Years ago it was a very simple tool include in most 3D package but now I found it's much less usual, or I havent searched the right place?
I looked at Blender, Modo but dont find a way for that so I am back to Sketchup!
I know it's a tool in VUE but I dont get it.
Thanx to help everyone -
There's Thomthom's Bitmap To Mesh plugin: viewtopic.php?t=31339.
I suspect that the results will depend very much on the quality of your source image.

thanx Hieru thats exactly what I was looking for. I will give it a try .
thanx again -
If you make the image as a 'png' file type, with the letters colored and the white parts fully transparent; you can then import it as an Image into your SKP [you will be able to see through the 'white' bits]: if you require real '3d' letters you can then process it using my ImageTrimmer tool that makes a component from it with 'cut-out' 2d faces and all of the transparent parts removed - a closing 'simplify edges' will probably be needed. Once you have this component you can edit it and use PushPull on the faces if a 3d form is desired. You can also paint the letters etc any color you like - you can also delete the imported image-material if it's not required... Also note that these 2d faces' edges are hidden by default, but you can easily select-all and unhide them if required...

I'd recommend tracing the logo manually, it'll give the best result.

Or create a vector version and export it to SU as a DXF or DWG - cleaning up the line work with a bezier tool for higher poly modelling. That's the route I usually take.

There ARE many ways...
Choose the one that best suits your logo - we've not seen it
