Invisible Material
-
Greetings,
I discovered how to render materials invisible, but with shadows still showing. This would be helpful for situations where you want to add trees in photoshop post process.
Cheers,

Thats Brilliant!!!
How did you find that out?

Just some experimentation. Really, I started randomly pressing buttons like a monkey - rendering each time.

Note that the material will be visible in reflections and refractions.

Right, so in a window you would see the reflection of that green cartoon tree.

what about the checkbox right below that one? (Exclude All Materials from Reflection/Refraction)
-
indeed, the exclude materials checkbox works pretty well. First image
Here is the option of visible only in secondary for the tree material
The mirror material has the exclude materials from relfection/ refrac. option checked (optimize exclusion didn't seem to make any difference)

Thanks Andybot for completing the experiment. Now we know.

Hello,
I have v-ray to Sketch-up 7,
I canยดt find the option "only visible in secondary"
in the material editor. Could it be I have an old version? -

The problem with exclude object form the reflection is that you will exclude all the object.
