What kinda calculator do you use??

Looking for a calculator to use next to my computer at work. I am maybe looking for a construction calculator or scientific calculator not sure.

I want to be able to enter fractions easily. Such as adding and subtracting feet and inches. One other fetcher I would like is to be able to calculate arcs and cords and such.

I am new to the steel detailing business so if you have any recommendations for such a beast let me know.

Would also like it to be available in Canada easily.

I used a TI-86 and it never let me down. I added a pitch program and a fraction program that turns 120.375 to 10'-0 3/8". Not sure how I could share it with you if you wanted it but if anyone one knows and you would like it I'll be happy to share if you settle with a TI-86. I was in the business of metal building detailing for 16 years and upgraded to the 89 but didn't like it as much.

Many of the big box stores ( Lowes and Home Depot) in the US carry construction type cals that have the fraction functions you want and they also can lay out stairs etc. so check your local area. Vertias comes to mind and you get get the link on the internet and they are located in Canada Maybe a internet search would return what you want. I use the cal that comes with windows for hex, binary etc conversions. It does not have a fraction function but does store irrational numbers ie 1/3 vs .3333 I think and up to 32 bits so repeated use will accumulate error. If you have windows check programs accessories and look for the calculator
BTW I hanging around on my desk HP41c programmable and can use magnetic cards,HP 11c and HP45 one of the very first super slide rules out even has a LED display!

Why not use your computer and put all your commonly used calculations and conversions on to EXCEL spreadsheets?

Calculated Industries. I have the Construction Master Pro Trig Plus III, the Windows desktop version, and they now make it for the iPhone and Android smart phones!

They are not the cheapest, but they are the best!

I have a Calculated Industries Construction Master Pro, too. It does fractions and slopes and more. I've had it for at least 6 years and it's great. There are a lot of different models on Amazon, so I'm sure you could find one that does what you need for a reasonable price.

I never found anything easier than th HP45 once you get used to the RPM mode ... I can't even switch back to my TI-92 now ;o)
