    Dear All,

I would like to 'see' what a camera sees when I place it at a specific point in a scene and then look in a specific direction, and for different focal lengths. Can this be done in native SU, or does one need a plugin? If a plugin, then does one exist?

    Kind regards,
    Bob

      Dear Bob,

Will Position Camera from the Walkthrough toolbar do what you want? That'll get the camera in a desired spot on the ground plane. You can then position the camera with Look Around (the eyes tool). Adjust eye height as desired and switch to the Zoom tool and adjust the focal length.

Or you can change Zoom AND the FOV etc.
Save desired view as a Scene Tab
Adjust and save as another etc tab...

There is of course the FilmAndStage Plugin [you can get the older version from Google] - this is about to be relaunched recast for v8 etc - watch out for announcements...

          Dear David and TIG,

Thank you for the help. I used the position camera tool, and set the line of sight by clicking, stretching and clicking again, then reset the focal length. The resulting view looks believable.

Many thanks for all your help.

          Regards,
          Bob

Just to add that scene 'Cameras' can be adjusted using AdamB's Scenetweaker plugin. No FOV adjustments but handy if you want to make changes to positions.
