Some guide point cloud
-
Trying to import a point cloud with Didier's Cloud.rb. The guy I got it from, first said it was some 330,000 points. I started the import and finished it just fine in a minute or two. However as it turned out, this is not 30,000 points but 485,045!
See how the file looks now:Trying to triangulate for about half an hour now. MaybeI can. Now how about orbiting when it's done?

...
Good luck with that...

Still working. I may need to shut it down...
-
I just can't understand these impulsive thrillseekers
-
I did shut it down eventually. Maybe another time (I needed to use SU now).

Maybe a plugin to remove 'every other guide point' would help? Obviously the mesh wuold lose detail but could save so much time!

This is the whole city where I live (well, the inner parts). From a certain distance, I would not see much of the detail anyway. It started as a cloud of some 30,000 points but the guy added some interpolated details. I will probably be happy with the raw, 30,000 points.

I had a large terrain that I imported that took over 8 hours to complete using the sandbox tools. They can really take a long time.
-
Well, I finally managed to make a mesh - with much less points of course!
The whole mesh is about 3 kms wide and the rectangle edges are about 18 metres long. It took about an hour or so for Didier's Cloud plugin to generate the mesh.

That mesh looks really good. Even with a lot less guide points. And hey, you didn't even have to bang your head against the wall. Man, 400,000+ points. That makes my head hurt.
