Can a LO file be referenced to more than one SU file?
-
I wonder if someone could help me with a LayOut question.
is it possible to reference one LO documento to more than one Sketchup file? in case it is how do I insert scenes from file B into a LO document which was started from file A?
best regards.

You just choose to insert another document.
/file/insert/new SU file.
My most recent construction documents link to 3 different SU models, myriad still images, and everything works beautifully.
Also a wonderful feature is that you can relink all of a certain file to another file. So, I have a SU model linked to 25 pages in LO and I save out a new version with some edits. I can relink all of them to the new file with no hassles.
/file/document setup/resources

thanks, chuck. I thought it would be possible but did not know how to do it.
what do you mean exactly by "relink all of a certain file to another file"?

Chuck was referring to the fact that you can just change the external SketchUp Model that files are linked to, and you update your 25 pages worth of models.
A lot of people use the workflow of naming their model with dates on the name, such as "Johnson_Residence_Oct12-2010.skp", then when someone comes in and updates the model 2 weeks later, they save it as "Johnson_Residence_Oct26-2010.skp", and the open File->Document Setup->References, and relink the model to the new one, and all pages get updates.

Okay, got more than one SU file in my documents list, but I have a problem, situation...
I typically will make a page, lets say a plan view, with a specific SU file referenced. Fine, I want to make another page, I click the add another "same" page. I get the text, and the document link, just make a few changes, i.e. view, scene, I have now the foundation plan, seemed to be working fine... then, I got to the framing page, made that page the same way...and I decided to redo specifically the framing plan, with a new, less detailed SU model, i.e no plumbing fixtures etc. So I went in to the document setup and clicked "relink",
referenced the new model, and wow, the new framing plan fit in seamlessly. But all hell broke loose when I looked at the elevations, sections,etc....
dang, everything changed...
Okay, here is my question, what is the best practice... it is easy to make a new page with links and text etc, so can I do that AND still have the time savings of this method, but somehow have the "relink" UNIQUE / specific to that page? Do I "unlink, then relink"? or is the document reference link universal across that document, (the copied pages all have a "root" imbedded link)
Could this be similar to making a component that you want to edit "unique"?
Or, can I make each page unique, just have to relink to the specific SU model if I make changes. Thanks for your help, advice and insights.

dang, everything changed...OK, why bother to do a new SU model for this rather than simply adding a new scene in the original model and setting it up to show less detail?
