Missing measurements every time I export or import.

Hi everyone
My Name is Nikos and I am new in this forum and I must also say that I am fairly new with SketchUp. I would like kindly ask a question to all the experts.
When I am finished with a SketchUp drawing usually I also have measurements as part of the drawing. Then I export the SketchUp drawing into AutoCAD in order to be able to print 1 to 1 scale drawings while making furniture moulds.
However when the SKP file is converted from into DWG and thus I open the AutoCAD file, every time I notice that the measurements do disappear.
Therefore while in AutoCAD I have to painstakingly re do the whole thing again by placing each measurement at the designated points. This problem does also happen when I import AutoCAD drawings into SketchUp.Can anybody tell me how to make sure when I export a SketchUp file into AutoCAD the whole data is transferred into the AutoCAD Drawing without missing the measurements including when I import in SketchUp.
Your answer will be very much appreciated and I thank you in advance for any kind of information that will lead me to resolve this problem.

I think Autocad dimensions are blocks. Do they not come into Sketchup as components, or groups? Or, if they do, are their insertion points set at 0,0,0?
Select Zoom all, or Zoom extents in Sketchup on your imported dwg. Check in the far distance for any geometry.
It is possible that Sketchup does not recognize text from other programs?
I am not sure if such things as numerical measurements are importable. Do a general search for "import dimensions", or "import dimension text", or even "import text".
These are just suggestions in the hope that an answer can be found. -
SketchUp (natively) only imports/exports geometry. TIG has a plugin to import dxf text, too (I do not know if this imports dimensions and whatnot as well):
http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?t=23002Nikos, if you are exporting to CAD, it means that you have SU Pro I guess. Have you considered using LayOut for dimensioning and such?
Now I see that your profile says you have SU 7. With LayOut 3 (that comes with SU 8), you can also export your LO document (along with dimensions and everything) to dwg/dxf.

Here's an example of two step import - first the 'geometry' - the built-in importers only do edges, faces etc, then you do the 'text' separately using my script.
You must 'explode' the required dims [in CAD - select the dims (perhaps by a filter) and eXplode...] before importing the file, so that they become lines, tick/arrow-block and text. Import as DWG or DXF
My importDXFtext requires the origin of both imports to be the same [preserved under options]. It needs a DXF file. -
Gentlemen Hi.
Thank you for your quick reply and the valuable information. I apologize for not getting back to you earlier but I happened to be out of the country. Nevertheless thank you again to Tig, Gaieus, mitcorb and must say that it is great to see people been open and helpful.

When you export a 3D model, dimensions DO get exported to DWG as AutoCad dimensions if they are checked in the export options. However, for some weird reasons they are invisible when you open the DWG in Autocad. Doing something to them (you can select them by selecting all objects and then checking Rotated dimensions from the top of the Object Properties dialog), like changing their colour to Bylayer, suddenly makes them visible. Also if you open the Dimension styles dialog and open the Dimension style 1 as if to edit it, click OK and then exit the dialog without actually changing anything, or then import the file into another DWG file and explode it, the dimensions suddenly pop up.
I hadn't noticed this, as I usually do all annotation and dimensioning in AutoCad and export only 2D or 3D geometry-and at work we still have v7.
