      Hi everyone

I am new to sketchup and going through go2school training videos.
They are using skp 5 for the tutorials but i have sketchup7 on my PC.
so some things are missing or not matching my version. one main thing is that edges are not highlighting in yellow while hovering over them. It makies selection easier but its not highlighting in skp 7

      Why is that?

any setting to be changes to see them highlight

      Thanks

Hi, An edge is only highlighted when selected. Hovering while using move tool will highlight but not select. There are other tools which highlight but only to imply an action can be performed. As for the yellow, this could be a change the SU's default blue color that was made?

I'm unfamiliar with the 'go2school' videos so trudging through them to find your issue isn't appealing!

        What action was been perfomed?
        What tool was been used?
        Is the video plugin related?
Can you post a pic or file for members to check?

          thanks man

i was doing something foolishly wrong.
i hadnt selected the move tool. i had just selected the PICK/Select tool and was expecting the edges to highlight.
But they only highlight while using move tool.
Also you are right about highlight color being changed in recent versions. earlier it was yellow and now its blue

          thanks for the help

Well, there are certain tools that can "autoselect" geometry. The Move tool is such (and this is the only way to manipulate vertices for instance as you cannot select an endpoint).

Other tools like the PushPull tool will only autoselect faces (well there would not be any reason for it to select edges as they cannot be PP'd) or the Offset tool similarly.

            Gai...

                Hi folks.

If you want to change the blue color used to show selected items, use the Style Window.

Choose the required style, click the Edit Tab, click on the last icon on the right (Modeling settings). Click on the colored square to the right of "Selected" and choose whatever color you want. Personnaly, I revert it back to the pure yellow of older versions of SU (RGB values of 255 for red and 255 for green and 0 for blue).

                Why this choice ?

Because there is no confusion with any of the axis (red, green or blue, especially blue).

But, this is a personnal choice.

                Just ideas.

I agree with Jean... except that I make my 'selection-colour' is a little more 'orange' [255,200,30]... because sometimes 'pure-yellow' doesn't display so well and 'orange' isn't a commonly used colour either... πŸ˜‰
