can someone give me a step by step idiots guide on how to actually use this?
I can get it to light an edge up orange. that's all. how do you select things with it?
-
See the first post for basic use.
Thomas has a link to a Command Cheatsheet also in the first post.(ThomThom is in Norway, so it was the middle of his night when you posted... he'll answer... be patient. He's an SCF moderator, and checks in several times a day.)

erm. I did?
and I don't see how to use it. sorry.. I mean, do I select the group then...what? the most I've got is an orange outline and nothing selected. so I'm doing something wrong...
this is what I mean by step by step and ... be patient? I asked once and waited...?

Khai, what are you trying to select? What function are you trying to use?
-
well I want to use it.... and I don't get any selections whatever I try.. so I thought I'd ask for help..
I did read the first post and sorry guys. there are no instructions there. you may see 'em but I don't..
just boil it down for the terminally bewildered? so I select a group and say I want to select a row of faces I....? or I want to select a ring of edges I....?

Quick video below, you can enable/disable context-click options from the UI Settings in the Selection Toys menu.

Thanks Marcus! Great video - I should put that in the original post.
Khai: in addition to Marcus' video that showed the menu items, you can also enable the toolbar
Tools->Selection Toys->Enable Toolbar

thank you that really helps
tho somethings not working right - selecting N-gons does not work at all... and I know there is some.. I can see them...!
-
What function are you trying to use?
-
Select Ngon
-
Select Only -> Polygons
?Note that
Select Only
andDeselect
modifies your current selection - doesn't add to it. -
that's exactly what I'm doing.
select the model, then Select Only -> N-Gons and nothing is selected, even tho I can see Ngon's.to clarify :

Better if you post your SKP file

sorry cannot do that, it's copyrighted work that will be for sale, and it's not just the mesh in the image above.

Polygon and N-Gon refer to entities where the Entity Info display Polygon.
-
erm... pardon?
ok I must be being dense... that made no sense at all?
-
In fact i believe this N Gon function shown only figures who are made with the tool "Polygon"
And not geometric figures that you can see as Ngons -

And not geometric figures that you can see as NgonsExactly - the selection tool doesn't look at the shape of the geometry, but filters the selection based on the types of entities SketchUp reports.
When you select something in SU, the Entity Info window will say what type it is - all the filtering is based on these types.
