It would be understood by many [I know it!] BUT then it's not the usual word in Architecture...

For small-scale stuff I'd use sketch-model, massing-model, card-model, simple-model, quick-model etc or 'mockup' if it would be at or near full size... or more likely just plain old 'model' to describe these things...

        Cheers, TIG --

Yeah, I know it as well, but I'm thinking more from the 3-D/special effects side of things... I think we should officially adopt it in the English-speaking world. It's really useful!

By the way, there are several shout-outsfor your plug-ins in the book!

        Cheers,

        Tim

In our office, we would use the same terms as TIG has suggested.

Not since college back in the late 60s.

I work in the more "artistic" side of the business and in a multi language setting where English is the common.
So 'maquette' is used because it is more easily recognised by different mother tongues.

We also use "makett" (spelt that way in Hungarian).

                Gai...

Never heard that word, but I could start using it. 😉

We use the term "Parti" regularly to describe the Initial Idea/Plan and sometimes I call an initial Model a "Parti Model". That language came from my particular Architecture School - I sometimes get blank stares when speaking to people that graduated from other schools.

I have to confess that that word is alien to me; even in college, in the 80s - 90s, I never heard it. Study model, massing model are the words I've heard. But, then, while in architecture school I made only 3 models total.

                    My avatar is an anachronism.

I know what the word means in its modelling context but dont think I would ever use it in conversation.
I'm asked to make 'massing models' or 'sketch models' at this stage...

in Spanish the word "Maqueta" was used frequently. Although i went to school in the states and i am more familiar with the term partii, be it a model or a drawing as marvins_dad suggests, as the more common term.
