3D Basecamp 2010!!!!!
-
Well if they'll take me I'll be there. Any word on when we can apply?
-
I am able to nominate 10 SketchUp experts so PM me if you wish to receive an email. I need your name [real name] email address to do so....
-
Chris, Andrew; have you guys decided where you are staying? Bonnie is thinking about whether she wants to go or not but this time I don't think we will be sharing a room because she has an invite to stay with someone in Denver.
I asked the Boulderado if there is a special rate for the conference and they said not, but that they could offer the Google corporate rate, which they did not divulge. I am supposed to phone in.
Best Western is the cheapest.
So where are you staying?
Tina, are you lurking somewhere? Are you invited? Wanna go? I'll nominate.
-
I'll porbably be aiming for "cheapest" at this point. Maybe even KOA tent camping cheap if it comes down to that But probably like the best western will work well for me.

Would you please remember the great, joyful and entrusted enthusiasm that Basecamp 2008 before SketchUp(7) had generated!!!
Base Camp 2008 !!!! 133 posts
Base Camp 2008 - Europe? 73 postsHope you will say for us the strong words to avoid our SketchUP to die (what we can predict for a short laps of time!!)
-1) Make SketchUp engine compatible with multicore!
-2) Revisit all the basic tools in accordance with the splendid work done by our free developers!!! (and pay for them)
-3) Give themselves an ear to listen constantly to the usersA sketchup aficionado

It's a shame that it is already clear that some (a good deal) of the invites will be wasted as people can't afford the travel/lodging costs.
-
You can contact your "invites" first to see if they can even make it or if they are interested in paying for it. At least then your invites might be more well spent?
Chris
-
That's true and indeed I would/will do so (no "wasted" invites!!!)
But what about me???
-
I'd love to go but I can't afford it it's at the very least 590β¬ to even get there...
-
The cost will be rather prohibitve coming from Europe for sure.
Is anyone from across Oceans for sure planning on coming out? Or would come out if they got in?
-
Would definitely give it serious thought if I scammed a ticket. Money is a big factor as flights are nearly β¬800. Then there's accommodation which I imagine will be another β¬500+. And finally spending dosh which is hard to factor in?
But getting to meet up with members here would definitely be a worthwhile experience
-
I went in 05 and didn't get accepted in 08. I got the Videos tho. I would love to go this time.
By the way. . .I didn't notice on the link where one would register. Is that not up yet?
-
It looks like at this point they have invited some people directly. Then those people are allowed to invite people. Then if there are spaces still open, who knows how they will handle that.

I'm in Boulder, I can try to post some hotel links later on. There are a number of options. One I like is the Quality Inn on Aprapahoe.
http://maps.google.com/maps?oe=utf-8&client=firefox-a&ie=UTF8&q=quality+inn+boulder&fb=1&gl=us&hq=quality+inn&hnear=Boulder,+CO&pcsi=15547479141983972847,2&ei=6G0qTJqiKKTOMtSFmeAI&ved=0CFQQpQY&hl=en&view=map&cid=15547479141983972847&ll=40.016556,-105.264838&spn=0.011832,0.01929&t=h&z=16&iwloc=AIf you get a bunch of people, sharing a bigger unit at Chautauqua can be nice. Certainly if you like hiking, but there you would need a car (bad bus service).
http://www.chautauqua.com/three_bedroom.htmIn most other areas in town you could get by without a car, and can also take the bus from the airport. I was checking the CU schedule. Looks like they will have already been in school for a week, but I also noticed that Labor Day weekend follows the BaseCamp. So some options to turn it into a vacation, or have time to drive to town vs. fly.
-
Hi all, across oceans??? Hell yeah!!!
If I travel by raft, I will be looking for a nice plush, comfy Hotel. If I fly, [$$$$$] maybe a little more reasonable priced place will have to do....
I'm just waiting till Google give us the go ahead so i can look at flights. Bit disappointed that there was an end of financial year one day sale on Sunday where flights were ridiculously cheap but I couldn't book yet!!!
Susan, I'd say Best Western looks the best at this stage; close to the Conference location and a village shopping complex.
Thanks David for the alternative sites too, Will have a look.

Considering the ground-breaking work that Fredo6 has been doing, he should receive an all expenses paid invitation as a guest speaker. His work on coding new plugins would interest all those other clever chaps that keep Sketchup alive and kicking.
Will the sessions be streamed live?
Regards.

I agree - although certainly there are a whole lot of other authors also generously sharing their brilliant plugins...

I doubt. There were no live streamlined sessions last time either - the only uploaded the (already edited) videos later.

Mike Lucey, as THE leading light in the whole Sketchup Community and with ears in the right places, could suggest that Google forks out some cash to help get some selected 'speakers' there ? It doesn't need to be business-class and the Hilton... That would greatly enhance the event and give non-US based users a chance to contribute, meet and exchange ideas.
Most tool-makers like Fredo do their great stuff 'for free', or at a very nominal cost: so no one is getting rich doing this [unlike Google]... AND let's not forget that there are others like Jean L or Simon le B [with their many many great tips] and Chris F [without his scripter's hat on, like his earlier scene-use presentation] who have many valuable insights into getting the best out of Sketchup.
Personally I would love to go... but it seems too much to spend months' of my personal income doing so, especially when every week I already give lots of my time and tools freely to Sketchuppers all over the world [and thus indirectly benefit Google as the fountain-head].
So I simply suggest that Mike puts forward the suggestion. Then if it doesn't fall on stony ears, a list of 'speakers' from the forums' membership who Google might at least 'subsidize' - after all WE ARE the beacon of the Sketchup world

>>How can Basecamp 2010 could be a normal one?? IMO no hope without a revolution!
oh, the French... revolution...
Just kidding. I think you're completely right. SketchUp-not-so-simple will make it simpler in the end!
-
Note that all these French revolutions come with that Guillotine, too!
They seem to be restless...
