I am wanting to use Google Sketchup to design some medicine cabinets and bathroom hutches specifically for shaving gear. I can only get as far as creating a rectangle and stretching it upwards. How do I create the sides and bottoms of the "box" and add shelved and shapes to it? I am totally new and lost on how to do this. Help!!

Hi,
Welcome to SCF!
If your at the first stage in getting to grips with SketchUp you'll need a handy reference and they don't come much better than this
It's only available in PDF for SketchUp 7.0 but as the changes between 7.0 and 7.1 are mainly performance related it'll be fine for a start. I'd even suggest going straight to the groups and components section and finding out how useful theses are!
Next stop is with a gentleman named Aidan Chopra, he's a bit of a legend and has some great video on his YouTube Channel
Finally once you're up and running post back with pics or files that are causing you problems and members will weigh in with solutions
Hope this helps
PS - There's also the SketchUp Sage site that is crammed with great info for all user levels
regards,
