Shortcut to edit group - unable to create
-
I understand that I need to select a group to be able to create a shortcut to edit same but I can't seem to do it even so. Search results here seem to say otherwise.
-
Works for me.
Select the Group
Window > Preferences > Shortcuts
Filter: Group
Select: Edit/Item/Edit Group
Click in Add Shortcut
Press: Shift-E
Press [ + ] button (I always forget this one.)
Click OK -
Thanks much. The filter was the key. I wonder why the choice is not available without the filter, which I thought would be limiting rather than extending the selection set. Perhaps my glasses are still fogged.

There are many commands that are only available in 'certain circumstances'...
For example to shortcut 'Reverse Face' - if nothing were selected then there's nothing for Preferences > Shortcuts... even with a Filter for 'Reverse'...
But, if you first Select a Face, then do Preferences > Shortcuts > Filter 'Reverse' will give you the command [hooray] - set it to sayShift+Q
...
While you are at it why not set 'Orient' toAlt+Q
?
So... if there are commands you'd like to shortcut to then first ensure that the 'context' is set properly before activating Preferences to attempt the Shortcutting...

you do realize you can just doubleclick a group to edit it?

Well said !
However, some commands are not so easily done and shortcuts do help.............. -

Yes, thanks. Sometimes, though, as you know, SU seems to shift the pick in the course of double clicking (if there may be some ambiguity owing perhaps to entities being in stacked (e.g., groups in front of a face). And the shortcut will hopefully be faster when having to drill in to perform multiple group edits (my present concerns are dims acting as text, or maybe TIGs 2DText (? I forget).

And I will now go in search of prefab shortcut selections, as I know folks with good experience have put them together, acknowledging that one size won't fit all, and that whatever is implemented must be remembered to be a short cut.
