Bonzai 2.0 released
-
It does everything SU does and more...
I have just looked at all the clips on the above posted site, I'm blown away as to how SU it looks yet how much more it does, feels like driving up to a Porsche at the stop lights while in a beetle.

I like what it says about the components now - that the holes cut out self heal as you remove or move cut-out components. Note, these are components that cut out thick walls.
And it supports DWG2010.
If only it had a plugin system like Sketchup.

I agree, Imagine a Vray, KT, Twilight or Thea plugin
I'd probably jump ship if they existed.
-
I've been thinking recently about getting Rhino - for a NURBS modeller. But now I'm wondering if I should get Bonzai instead. Will have to try out this new version. ...wish V-Ray was available for it...

Render-engine-plugins - yes. But I was also wanting a scriptable API system. I've grown so accustomed to writing small scripts for automation now.
Max, Rhino, ACAD, Blender etc - all got scripting systems. If Bonzai gets one I'm definitely sold! -

shhhhh, someone might hear you.

Adjustments in direct are some awesome
-
Wow!
So it imports SKP and KMZ but only exports KMZ?
Anyone tried to export from SU to Bonzai and back again in SU for rendering? Or similar workflow.. -
Stunning and very friendly UI

About the Pluging of rendering seems there is one
-
I installed the trial version (full/30 days) this morning. I've played with it a bit.
Consistent, professional interface; navigating around is simple, clear.
NURBS/organic modeling: responsive, quick, and soooo easy.
Seems to have many useful options.
For my needs, I wish SU was headed in this direction. In fact, a good deal of Bonzai closely resembles SU.
I'm going to continue to experiment; let you know what happens. -
Ergonomy is not adapted of the Progs of today!
Despit of that it can be a killer one -
Same price as SU with more tools and options, and NURBS.....
I have been a fanboy of SU too long it seems, I've missed Bonsai's sneak attack.
-
hey look, they repackaged form-z. gave it a new name and dummied it up a bit.
i don't see anything new here??? -
that being said i'm still pretty impressed by the videos. check out the match view: http://www.formz.com/products/bonzai3d/bonzai3dVideo_640.php?startMovie=Interface_640.flv
BTW do you see insert 3dwarehouse content when he goes for the trees?
oh! and google earth too!!! in a different video?
gotta have -
I viewed all the videos and the render section .... all I can say is that they would appear to have 'dummied' it up quite well.
I am curious about the .skp IN but not OUT. The ability to .skp IN makes virtually all the components you could want via 3DWH, FF, etc ..... interesting!
I will have to try it out before coming to a conclusion but must say that it looks impressive.

I'm trying to download the trial right now, but there seems to be an issue with the link I was emailed. Anyone know the export options out of Bonzai? I say neither will totally replace the other and using each for what they do best in a combination workflow would make more sense than jumping ship. There are too many things done right in SU. Hopefully the compatibility of the two programs is not too painful and eventually as seamless as SU and MOI.
I am intrigued though. Especially with the Extend, Merge and Combine nurbs tool and the post operative parametric slide adjustments. Looks like a very smart and intuitive setup.
