WMV to MOV?
-
Hi Dave,
you have Prism video converter,
http://www.nchsoftware.com/prism/esp/
it is free -
-
Thanks guys.
I'll try Prism although it doesn't look like it's free. Maybe it'll work once for free.
-
AVG called the Prism converter malware and quarantined it.
-
Handbrake should do it but I'm not 100%. It's free and has lots of knobs and whistles. And the current version supports 64bit OS
not sure about Mac version
-
Thanks Rich. I couldn't see anything on the Handbrake site that indicated that it would do what I want. I'm a bit wary of the Prism thing since AVG isn't liking it. Any other suggestions?
It's kind of a drag that I only need it once.

well from what I remember there is an iPod converter on either filehippo.com or download.com that I used to have that quickly converted any video file to all sorts of formats
http://www.ipod-video-converter.org/
found it, this is fairly easy to use and does exactly what is says on the tin!
Don't be put off by the iPod part it has resolution outputs great than iPod screen
-
No iPod though.
I'm still using 8-track tapes for music.
-
With a little more exploration of the website for the Prism converter, I am definitely not going to use it. NCH Software expects me to buy a tech support package so I can ask them about this malware thing. Doesn't seem to be any other way to contact them.
Back to square one.
-
Have you tried the freeware Any Video Converter? ...I've used it before but I don't remember if it exports to MOV.
-
Hi Marcus,
I didn't come across that one but I'll check it out.
Are you frozen solid, yet?
-
Frozen? Its a pleasant day outside here. I'm just headed out to a park to feed the Geese with my kids Have fun in MN.
Chris
-
Have fun Chris. It is 6ยฐF here today. At least that is on the positive side. It's been on the negative side all week.
-
No joy on Any Video Converter but thanks.
The search continues.

FWIW, the Mac version of Handbrake works fine!
I just got Quicktime Pro 7 for this Mac, and now it seems I can export even higher resolution from SU than I could before, but it still doesn't look quite as good as when I'm modelling.
MOV files are native to Quicktime, so I would suggest the best thing would be, buy Quicktime Pro (Windows and Mac) for ยฃ20.

Just found this after a quick search so I can't vouch for it, but it looks promising: http://www.movtowmv.com/

You know its bad when we get excited because the forecast says 18F for tomorrow. Anything above 30F is shorts and T-shirt weather here
-
Thanks Marcus. I'll check it out although by the title it does the reverse of what I want.
I don't think the ice on my driveway is ever going to melt. Lake Pepin mush be solid to the bottom now, too.
-
Marcus, that worked although it compresses the heck out of it.
I may be able to get by with it as it is.
Keep warm.
Dave

FWIW, I've been looking at QuickTime Pro. I don't see anything that indicates it'll import WMV files so that won't help.
-
Dave,
did u try the free-ipod-converter?
it will convert your wmv to mov and keep the resolution of your wmv?
