A $1,000 plugin for a $3,500 piece of software. Would next week be quick enough?

You have a beginning with the Extrude Edges By Rail! by TIG ☀
And seems "box modeling" is some different than Nurbs modeling 😉

            Hi,

I looked many times at many such presentations of 3D programs. Everything shown seems as if it were very easy. First in practice, you will experience how long the learning curve is.

thanks Pilou, this is exactly what I wanted... TIG you rock buddy and you know it!

here's what I was able to lay down last night while learning.

I've also been using the power nurbs pro and while it is somewhat difficult, it's a very powerful organic modeling tool... the steps needed to perform just one rail are so convoluted that it takes away the pleasure of modeling.

while TIG's Edges and Rails are simple, fast and intuitive... modeling organics is fun again... and I can stay in SketchUp.

                    Great results Kris!
I haven't had the time to really dig into the edges by rail plugin but will try it out next few days...
Any tricks to share to get us going?

it's all in TIGs description... the key is to control the number of vertexes on each rail try to keep them either the same number or divisible by it's self... and you can do this by converting any type of line into a polyline converter... then sit back and let it do it's magic...

warning: fine lines with tons of vertex points makes for a long build time...

EEbyRails v2 has been optimized so the number of segments in rails/profiles isn't so critical BUT for the 'smoothest' meshes use the same number of segments in each pair of rails/profile, or at least multiples (20+10 say)
Version 2 also has a final 'melding-profile' option so you can control the pairs of sides in a mesh - both rails and profiles, so that all edges will 'mesh' with adjoining surfaces... get it here http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?p=201286#p201286
