First thing to do is upgrade your graphics card drivers. Report back if the problem persists after that.

New computers doesn't usually come with the latest drivers.
Ask your IT department to do it.

To test - disable hardware acceleration in SU. If the problem disappear, then it's the graphic card drivers.

                    hm..
                    what graphic card is it?

Maybe you can try the "Correct reversed picking driver bug" checkbox as well...

Just a note this bug was fixed, and this is option no longer available in SketchUp as of version 7 (or maybe 7.1?)

                        Hi

Looks like you guys got it all figured out, the issue is exactly that the video card isn't handling OpenGL properly. There are several potential gotchas that can lead to this behavior:

                          1. Video card just doesn't support OpenGL (Intel video cards, boo!)
                          2. The OS driver doesn't support OpenGL (Windows Vista, boo!)
                          3. The manufacturer video card driver doesn't properly handle OpenGL.
                          4. The video card is old, supports OpenGL, but doesn't have a current driver.

The fixes, as stated already, are to get the most current driver for the video card directly from the manufacturer or just Disable Hardware Acceleration. This problem wasn't a "Reverse Driver Picking" issue but specific to the driver recognizing the face altogether. Its been around for years and just changes a little as the video cards evolve. Glad its all working properly now!

I'd bet this is the issue. Remember him saying

Now I'd bet it is a kind of "cheap" lappy with an integrated chipset only.

                                Pardon me for jumping in.

I have some problems sometimes when zooming around. My model disappears. If I perform a zoom extents it is fine, but is a minor inconvenience.

So, I have a Macbook Pro (laptop) that I purchased this past June. How would I go about to upgrade drivers on that when I click on Mac Update, it reports no drivers available. And further, the MBP has 2 video cards in it.

I'm still a SU newbie but have been perplexed by this for a while now and thought I'd ask.

                                Thanks,

                                Rick

Maybe your model is very large, or located far away from the origin.
