      Hi,
can anyone direct to a plugin or so which can be used to simplify an object so that it has only an outer surface (skin?)

SU is a surface modeler, it only has surfaces, I am not sure what you mean.

Are you trying to "unfold" it so that it is flat?

no I think they mean removing intersecting geometry that's inside the mesh

In the absence of a procedural tool common in some other modelers, you can switch to xray view, highlight and delete edges one by one. Or temporarily erase a face in regular mode to create a peephole, select and delete faces.

If you want to loose innner geometry there is a ruby that does this - search the extensions...

You don't need to have edges 'on' in the style settings, or you can hide all edges... Then you only see just the faces... However, SUp faces exist only BECAUSE they are bound by edges; so you must have them, even if you hide them in some way once the modelling is over...

                TIG:
Sorry to drift off topic, but I have on occasion seen faces without edges, and been unable to unsoften the geometry to reveal them. This happens when doing some extreme contortions, usually unintentionally while using a plugin.

There are certainly occasions when there's some weird thing going on with SU but it generally creates invalid geometry which should also turn out if you go to Model info > Statistics > Fix problems. There are numerous ways creating such invalid geometry even on purpose (you shouldn't do it of course) and in such cases you never know where you end up.

                  Gai...

                    Thanks, Gaieus.
