this, 2 chairs and a blanket, was actually my classic "setup" to build a small shelter - in my childhood and on rainy days ...

Very nice model. Thanks Dave Making a piece out of one board is a very worthwhile project. I stumbled upon a 16/4 board of cherry that became a chest of drawers. It was a fun challenge.

I did that on another Josef Hoffman piece. I like the color of your caning better, though.

CJ, If I were to build these pieces, I think I'd opt for the bandsaw route. That would certainly work for the seat slats, front and rear stringers, and the armrests on the Weatherend piece. However, for the crest rail on my benches, I might have to laminate a blank. Same goes for the circular piece at the top of the Weatherend back. There are commercial adhesives that will work for outdoor applications; I've never used them, though. Hope this helps. Best, dh

Yes, they do make a lot of sense in certain situations. I made a pair of bedside tables for clients last year from hardwood T&G flooring they had left over. The insides of the carcase was rough as, each board bowed or cupped and too much work to flatten them. So the NL method was just the ticket. A simple matter to fit each drawer bottom nicely, and then fit the sides clear of the carcase.

Thanks David! News Gothic could be it. The font/type face appears to have been available in the time period. I had thought about but rejected the Leroy lettering sets based on the 3 but you could be right. At the time, other companies manufactured the key and other devices that use the same lettering. I remember some shortwave receivers and a direction finder receiver that I was given when I was about Ian's age. They had seen action in WWII. They had the same or nearly the same lettering on them. (I wish I still had them but they got passed on being too heavy to move.) I guess I'll leave the labeling as it is on the key now, though. Your clues led me to find a set of fonts created from the Leroy lettering guides. My next overly detailed model might be the scriber and of course I'd need to model the templates.

Thanks all. @davidheim1 said: How did you model the bamboo lashings? Best, dh Each lashing was made using three planes and intersecting them with the stretchers offsetting the center one and then using loft by spline. I had originally used helix along curve but didn't like the look. Hey All, Thanks for the interest to a 'dead' and probably buried version of this great program. Again I say that the old v8 really serves my very modest drawings well. My 'Prom-Date' would be to have the latest 'Pro' version and even with*'sfto1'* suggestion I still think it would be a waste on me. I've taken 'DaveR's' and *'slbaumgartnwe's'*suggestions and still have no 'Preference' or 'Model Info' drop downs. I did go to my iMac which has a good working v8 on it and did the following: Copied and pasted the .plist file from the iMac's '~/library/preference' folder to by MBP. No Good, the v8 still worked the same. I then copied and pasted the SU folder from the iMac '~/library/applicationsupport/googlesketchup8/sketchup' folder to my MBP and still no good. Next I copied the complete SU v8 program from the iMac's '/application' folder to an external HD. Plugged it into the MBP and fired up v8 from the external HD..... still no Preference orModel Info drop downs. I can, using SU v8 on the external HD, open it on the iMac and it runs great, no issues. Now I believe that there is something going on with my OS X Siera install in my MBP, but I have no issues with my other programs. It's not so much that a part of v8 doesn't work on the MBP, it's more that* I can't find the reason*.... Things like this drive me crazy. My wife stops talking to me and my dog hides. (I don't mind the first part, but I really like my dog. Again, thanks to all that gave some input or at least suffered through my lament ....... Mike
