    • Columns and sections in layout

A layman here trying to figure out

a.) how to place column and section notations onto my drawings in Layout. I pulled these out of Scrapbook.

b.) the technique for laying them out. I was only able to pull one column onto the page at a time, I was not able to pull the whole diagram out of scrapbook as one. Is the idea just to do one at a time?

c.) What is the difference between a column and a section- I kinda know from reading plans. It seems like columns help you orient the structure as you move from one view to another, and sections actually lead you to details.

How do you place the columns in the correct place as you go from a plan view to an elevation? Is there a plug-in that does that automatically or do you do it by hand to each drawing?

    • RE: Confusion about layers and pages in Layout

Screen shot of Layers in my current LO project. I have watched a tutorial on "pages and layers" in Layout several times but this Layers page still is a complete mystery to me. I understand the concept of "layering", however I feel like this thing has a mind of its own. I am missing a crucial piece of understanding in this puzzle.

Not sure how one layer gets attached to a page, or unattached.

      Hi Nick,

You mean like this? I will make sure that this is the case in the future.

    • Confusion about layers and pages in Layout

So wrapped around the wheel with layers and pages in Layout. Currently have 7 pages made in layout and while working on page 7, I come to find that the drawing on page 7 is also on my cover page. I make changes to one page, only to find that I have made changes to another page as well. Haha, I'm slowly losing my mind.

Can someone explain the mystery behind keeping layers and pages separate from each other in layout?

    • RE: Trouble with Dimensions in Layout

Thx. I added a new layer, which is at the top of the list, and that corrected the dimension issue. Just out of interest, do you know why it might have happened initially? I think it has something to do with layers. It was measuring dimensions on a blank sheet of "paper/document", I wonder what caused it do disconnected from the document I was working on.

    • Trouble with Dimensions in Layout

Got into a sand trap and can't figure out what I did:

I was attempting to place dimensions on a drawing and two things happened, please see attached picture as well:

a.) the dimension appears beneath the drawing, I guess on the layer beneath.

b.) the dimension is the actual dimension on the screen and not what is going on in the drawing. For example a wall stud should show 92 1/4", instead it shows 2 1/4". I know that there is a way to make it go back to normal, but I can't figure it out.
