    • RE: Revit to Sketchup Workflow...

I posted about this issue on Revit City, and you can import a FBX file from Revit, which can be converted into Sketchup with all materials remaining. I was able to do it through SimLab FBX converter demo. The person who mentioned it opened the fbx file in 3d Max, exported a 3ds into Sketchup, which retained the material properties.

I don't know if there is a free fbx converter or not.

Whatever values or merit Revit, or any other modeling software has, Sketchup has a fantastic quality of moving around a model that none of the Autodesk softwares have.

    • RE: Problems with modeling from Acad drawings

In general, I try to never use the actual lines from the CAD file as lines for my sketchup model. It's almost always a matter of putting it on a locked layer and tracing over it. That way I know that what I'm doing is clean and organized as I need it.

Regarding my search method, I do see that I was searching poorly, using the box in the upper left. I should have searched the forums using the box in the upper right of the forum sections.

      @Brodie:

That topic you linked to was considerably helpful, thank you very much. In fact it was so helpful that I feel foolish for not having discovered it myself. However, when I believe that I searched for it in the search box before posting. Additionally, in searching for "Revit to Sketchup" the aptly titled "[tutorial] Revit to Sketchup - How to" still does not come up on the first few pages (I didn't check all 25). How can this deficiency be explained.

Should my search method be improved?

Back to topic. Thank you! As is agreed, there is no beautiful way, but the layer material exchanger moves me many spaces towards a better approach than what I previously had.

Now if only there were a way for the exterior and interior faces of walls to be exported from Revit on different layers...

      Bueller? Bueller?

So I'm the only person who needs to do this? Really?

    • RE: Convert Color by Layer Colors...

      Thanks for the reply TIG.

It seems there are ways to do something once, which may be messy, but you do what you have to do. But having a systematic workthough that is untedious-ly repeatable is a whole other.

    • Revit to Sketchup Workflow...

I indirectly posted about this recently, but I want to be more explicit.

Does anyone have a Revit to Sketchup workflow that they would recommend?

My situation is a client who ultimately wants a sketchup model to tool around in. I want to build it in Revit for the variety of values that Revit has.

The trouble seems to be that every time I import into sketchup, I have to reapply textures to everything. While this is bearable for one round of edits, any additional revit edits become tedious.

Does anyone have a good workflow to deal with this?

Thanks. Not sure where to post this in this forum.

    • Convert Color by Layer Colors...

I've been trying to find a good solution to my problem involving color by layer. When I import a DWG into Sketchup from Revit, there is no material information, but all things come in on separate layers. If I color by layer, I can have the layers color or texture settings all setup so that I can simply reimport a revised dwg file and all the layers will appear as I want them to. This can almost work like an xref or Sketchup component.

But can I take that model and convert the colors to correspond to the objects themselves and not just the layer?

This could be the final solution to working from Autocad to Revit into Sketchup seamlessly. The benefits of that equation can be discussed, but the problem remains.

      Any thoughts?

    • RE: Drape Bugsplat

I am currently having the same problem. Suddenly, today out of nowhere, I get the bug splat everytime I try to drape something. Including draping one rectangle onto another.

      Your file crashed my Sketchup.

I've been dealing with this this morning. I have uninstalled and reinstalled SU. Still have the problem.

I have the most recent version. I do not understand what's causing the problem.

    • RE: Radiance Daylight Simulation Software...

Thank you very much. I actually have found that plug-in, which I guess leads me to the real issue, of how the heck does Radiance work. As it says in the description of sutorad, the plugin won't help you use Radiance. The whole Radiance community seems hard to get into, and yet it seems like it is such a powerful tool. I want to be learn how to use Radiance, and I would love to use sketchup models with it.

    • Radiance Daylight Simulation Software...

Does anyone know about any sketchup plugin to interact with Radiance software? I'm looking for daylighting simulation software that can give me lumen counts, and thorough graphical representations.

Radiance seems to be the high-water mark software for daylight simulation, but is Linux based, and hasn't been updated much for the last few years.
