    • RE: Sun/Shade Analysis with Civil 3D file

My problem is that I seem to get the line work to drape, but not the rendering applied by paint bucket. For instance in this particular file, I apply vegetation to the outside and asphalt to the mini road using paint bucket. When I drape the objects, I get the vetetation applied to the entire surface, but only the road line work which appears to be grass.

My ultimate goal is to perform the study on a high school and incorporate parking areas, landscape islands and trees, proposed building, etc. I hope to render the 2D drawing and then add trees and push/pull the building. Then I hope to drape the rendering over the proposed surface and model for sun/shade. Does this sound like the correct process?

I have uploaded the experimental file which has the imported surface. The surface displays beautifully and was quite easy to import. It's the rendering that is causing me grief.

      Thanks for taking a look.

    • Sun/Shade Analysis with Civil 3D file

      Greetings!

Perhaps I am pushing the newbie thing too far. I recognize I'm pushing my skill level with SU, but here's the question.

I am trying to perform a sun/shade analysis using SU and I wish to render a file imported (DWG format) from Civil 3D. I believe I need to drape the rendered image over the imported surface, but so far I have not been successful. I created a simple surface and layout consisting of a rectangel with a proposed road in Civil 3D. A very simple file.

I import the drawing and render the grass/pavement using the paint bucket and then attempt to drape the objects over the 3D surface. I can get the grass to overlay, but not both.

Obviously the actual drawing I want to use is much more complex, so any pointers as to the process or what I am doing wrong would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for assisting the perplexed newbie!
