If you noticed, the frame looks like it is made of four boxes. just turn those boxes you see into components.

Changing them into components did not do anything different. Attached hinge, nothing, attached motor, nothing. (Yes I linked them up right to the appropriate parts) However, having those set as static mesh. unset static mesh and the cylinders fall straight through the box frames.

    • Hinge (bearing) and Spring

I'm having a heck of a time connecting a hinge (bearing/axle), spring then another hinge, and have it all operate properly. Running free version of SU 7 and SP3RC1.

Also can not modify the UI at all. The (blue) menu has no options. Not in play or running mode when I click a hinge, motor, etc, then click UI...

Actually figured out that using the slider hinge worked somewhat for what I needed. However what Physicsguy said. I'm not sure how to make the boxes moveable (I'd like to put an axle in the middle and have all the box frames rotate, with the spheres still being trapped inside, yet able to roll. (I'm experimenting with perpetual motion idea's I've had for nearly 20 years.)

    • Rolling cylinder problem

I'm trying to get the cylinder (physics set to sphere) to roll down the slope while inside the elements pictured. All the cylinder does is drop straight down through the square frame when I play. When I set the cylinder on top instead of inside, it rolls down the incline. I really need this to work with the cylinder caged or trapped inside the frame.

Not sure how to put an image in here, but I have a picture of this on my site here:

      Help?

Howdy back at ya Devin. Sometimes you can find fairly decent tutorials at google 3D warehouse. (Just type in tutorial as one of the key words in the search there.)

Sometimes you gotta dig around to find the gold nuggets.

Hi all. Just a quick intro. I've tinkered with sketchup a tiny bit off and on and never took much time to really learn it. Made a couple lawn furniture plans. I'm hoping to learn more now and branch out into the animation part some.
I'm also wanting to learn how to make more complex curves, like boat hulls and especially airplane wing airfoils. (I love airplanes, used to fly.) I only have the free versions SU 5 and 7. I downloaded sketchyphysics 3X earlier today. So much to learn, so few hours in the day.
Also would like to find animation program/s I could use to make some videos, such as iClone or moviestorm. At this point I can use neither as graphic card won't handle iClone, and have router issues with moviestorm....
This looks like it might be the place to be for SU though!
