Imagine the scene, the wife walk in and I'm stood their painting happy trees, a big mop of Bob Ross hair and mustache....she would soon have me sectioned! llonghi & Cherryni, thank you. TIG. Thanks, I enjoy reading the history of these buildings almost as much as modeling them. John

Having seen her close up, leave her in, leave her in, by all means Who cares if she's out of place. Maybe she's ok and everything else is out of place

Jeff and Bob, thanks. two interesting buildings! I will have to search for more images of these. The Wyntoon house looks great wish I could render in that style. TIG, I've been considering Cragside since you first mentioned her, I have a lot of images but only a small floor plan, although Google Earth should help. I was planning stopping off at Cragside when returning from Scotland last summer but the kids were creating so much I gave it a miss. Got them home quicker so I could kick their heads in!!! thanks John

Thank you everyone. Tom, I should have said you "mentioned" AO, sorry. I've watched all those clips on Youtube, he's very good. That's where I got the settings for this render. I need to concentrate more on rendering as I don't seem to be able to produce anything consistent, mine always have a "cartoonie" look to them. Edvinas, thanks for the link I understand now. I did the opposite and saturated the background! thanks John

Hey, I'm currently writing a story set in a stately home modelled after Chatsworth house, and I'd love it if I could load your model in Sketchup viewer to use as drawing reference. Would you be able to send a download link to mekkatechthc@gmail.com?

I grew up in Battersea (south London) in just such a house, loads of characters and a very friendly community. Nobody had a pot so there was no jealousy of who had what or not unlike now. In the 90's most of the terraces were torn down and replaced with multi storey housing which lost the gardens for slabs of concrete and potted trees which made the place feel very cold and soul less, losing its identity. I went back to the house I lived in then as a few at the end of the street were left ( I am informed the money ran out) and although they had put new tiles on the roof they left the original structure which meant the roof sagged at the back, it was a bit pathetic really. The original boundry between these back to back terraces was an open sewer and when I was a kid this evident by a dip in the ground level where the boundry wall/fence was, a link with the 17th and 18th century housing boundry location. The school at the top of our street was built over one of the rivers turned into a closed sewer during the big push to cleanse the city and was named after the river, Latchmere school. Yep, despite living over the road from school, I was sometimes late. John, I might have to emulate you as this series has givien me the urge to model these streets as I remember them. Thanks for that.

Roger, It certainly makes you appreciate these magnificent old buildings more! From first draft to the final stone, given what tools/instruments they had at the time. Imagine the maths; fractions using an abacus Peter, sounds like a local authority project! Imagine the stone masons crying with laughter Monday morning, oh well another seven years work lads. Bob, TomDC, I'ts great to see what others can achieve, John

Thanks, guys, that“s really flattering TBH dear Simon, it was you who brought my attention to the University of Heidelberg digital library @tadema: IMHO it couldn“t possibly end up shoved somewhere on your HDD. I am pretty much convinced that anyone should be more than grateful to lay his hands on such a model of mammoth proportions and render it. BTW check out this guy“s work on reconstructing Fonthill Abbey using Rhino: http://www.hvtesla.com/fonthill/. And don“t forget to check out this link as well: http://www.hvtesla.com/fonthill/literature.html. I don“t know why, but I cannot open any of those .pdf files

John, This one is a great little building. I like the "render" finish (as you call it--took me a while to understand). Nice to see all the sides as they come together well in the whole. The gutter is a little strange but it looks practical. I was almost going to beg to see this model to check it out but I see you have a new book! http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=41513 and it contains a model too. Yay! I'm going to get it. Thank you for all the submissions and for your generosity in sharing your work and knowledge! Peter
