A little progress today, the three main masts are in place, a lot more involved than I anticipated; lots of details which cannot be seen.

Liam, I was going to scan the plans but thought this was may have been more acurate, even so it's still a lot of tweaking.
John, thanks I hope I can pull it off!
I had heaps of appreciation for the way people modeled cars, trains, boats ect in SU; I've even more now. This type of modeling is totaly alien to me. Anyway, not much progress today after a young lady decided my car looked better with hers rammed in the back of it!

HMS Victory,
1st try at modeling a ship! 10hrs into the model and it's a big learning curve. Plenty of mistakes and retakes, working from paper plans is a pain.
John

Thanks Rich. If things go pear shape I can think of no better place to look for help. If things go t*ts up you can all laugh!
John
Thank you for your comments all. York is a great City although it's been a few years since I was there. Lee in reality the road must have been not much more than 4ft wide, I lie a lot in my renders! it's allowed lol. Thinking of having a change of direction as I'm struggling for things to model. I found an old set of plans for HMS Victory which I built a few years ago, took me over 2 yrs to build. Not sure if I can do it but here goes.
John
Thanks Bob, just the thought of all that tiling brings me out in a sweat! easier to do it in SU.
25min model and texture time.

When I finish the village I'm gonna rent them all out....I'll be rich!
John

Pete, they are great. I really should try modeling different things in SU rather than sticking at the one dimentional "structures". I tried Artisan but gave up after a couple of hours!
John
Now Mike Lucey suggested this last night, he's a closet Coronation Street fan I believe!! As it happened when he mentioned it I had only just finished the model
John

@ramy, the paving was made using the offset tool but it is easier to use TIG's Lattice Maker & then Thom's Cleanup ruby, two awsome ruby's.
@ Mike Lucey, Now that's scraping the bottom of the barrel

Bryan, dedmin uploaded a load of handles http://forums.sketchucation.com/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=25427&p=303908&hilit=handles#p303908
may help you out
John
Thank you Mike.Bob, not as "exotic" as that, fell over the hoover tube and bust my ribs and shoulder, plus almost put my eye out! mind you if I'd fell over backwards I may have made the front page of The News Of The World lol
take care
John
Thank you all. Bryan, that sounds good, dream job. SEKTA, when nurse Gladys begins to look attractive it's a sign of old age,
Gawd I'm old, shes not too bad! samo8076, I'm using V-ray, although most of the settings are beyond me at the moment.
regards John
Thank you lads, your too kind with your words at times. Daniel LOL your a million miles away with that statement! I'm a ceramic tiler by trade. A little over 3 yrs ago I wanted to build a bird shed so set about looking for a program to help. Stumbled upon Sketchup, having never used or seen a "cad" prog used, googled about for a little help and found this site; Was in awe of peoples work here, couldn't get Sketchup further than push pulling boxes so set about building my shed! Heres the good bit!! whilst building the shed, had an accident with the hoover tube
so for the next 3 mths whilst layed up I played about with sketchup and became addicted... no known cure happily.

Arkwrights grocers from the British comedy series Open All Hours.
I had difficulty finding a picture of the shop in the series so had to hire the DVD! The original shop is still standing, now a hairdressers. The shop in the television had a great deal of "clutter" outside so I omited some of it.

Chris, that troll at the rear of the church looks like the mother-in-law....bloody hell it is!!
