Thanks for clarifying. I`ll will resolve those issues before I start playing around with the rendering.

Ok, I'll check out that program for rendering. It seems to be very popular here on sketchucation.

P.S Just to clarify, this is my first SU model, but I do have some modeling experience with SolidWorks ๐Ÿ˜„

Thanks. Maybe it's time I learn to render also? Is there a free program that you would recommend?

      @ Gaeuis
Thanks for your critique. I'm not quite sure what you're referring to re the outer black faces which should be reversed? Regarding the use of different blacks, the only time I used this is in the charger port to show some of the details which would be hidden by the heavy use of black. Otherwise, the model uses only one shade of black.

The image below is a photo of the same product, which shows why i needed to use so much black ๐Ÿ˜

    • My first model

      Hello all,

I have just completed my first model in Google SketchUp. This project has been worked on and off over the last few months, and has been final completed thanks to your assistance.

      http://i764.photobucket.com/albums/xx289/lgp88/SEC902.jpg

      http://i764.photobucket.com/albums/xx289/lgp88/SEC902angle1.jpg

I have submitted the model to the Google SketchUp warehouse here:
      http://sketchup.google.com/3dwarehouse/details?mid=6f63df7ca322514f41ced50d3a574698

I was hoping to be the first to submit this type of model to the warehouse, but unfortunately I was beaten only recently by someone else.

Please provide some constructive feedback so I can improve my future models.

      Thanks,

      T1000.

    • RE: Paint tool + 3D Text

      Hello Chris,

I've managed to solve the problem.

For some reason, when using the 3D text tool, if you don't select the "Filled" tickbox in the 3D text menu, and you then colour the surface the text is attached to, the text will disappear. Also, this won't allow you to paint the text in order to change it's colour.

What is the "Filled" tickbox used for?

      Thanks.

    • Paint tool + 3D Text

      Hello,

I've applied some text to a surface using the 3D text tool. The text is actually 2D.

When I'm trying to colour this surface, the text will disappear and the surface will be filled entirely by this one colour.

Second problem, when I drew the text, I used an empty fill so I colour it later later. However, now that I've decided on the colour I want the text,I cannot fill the text using the paint tool.

      Suggestions?

      Thanks,

      T1000.

    • RE: How to make object with angled planes

The object I'm trying to make is a button from a keypad assembly for a mobile phone. See images below:

Looking ahead, I'll probably want to add an image of the actual keypad image on top of the button. I've never done that before, but I`ll cross that bridge when I get there. Hope that helps communicate the problem.

    • How to make object with angled planes

      Hello,

I'm trying to make an object that contains angled planes. The image below shows a partial made shape that I'm wanting to make a solid object.

      http://img197.imageshack.us/img197/818/43245569.jpg

The only way I currently know to do this, is to first make a larger shape, then cut away sections using planes and the 'intersect with model' function. Is there a much easier way to do this?

      Thanks.

    • Roundedge around a curved path

      Hello,

I'm trying to round an edge around a curved path. I've tried two different methods to achieve this:

      1. Drawing a quarter circle + follow me (first picture below)

      2. Using push-pull to extrude the raise section, then using RoundEdge by Bezier.

In both cases, the result ends in the second image below, where SU just can't handle rounding an edge along a curved path.

Any help / suggestions to resolve this would be much appreciated.

      Thanks.
