    • RE: 1 project - multiple users

You want both people to be working with the same file at the same time? The only way I can think of to do this is to use something like Microsoft live meeting or Webex and view the same file together and hand control over to the other user back and forth.
      It is slow however.

You can just save the file. Send it to the other user. He works on it and saves a newer version which he sends to you and you open it and look at the differences. For that matter you can import the original version into the new improved file and compare them side by side.

    • RE: How to measure from the center point of a line

There is a reason, sort of. You make construction 'segments" perpendicular to a start point measuring from End Points and you "Pull Out" a parallel Guideline from along any other point on the line. Presumbably you can't get a construction line parallel from an endpoint because SketchUp has no way of knowing what you wish to be parallel with. ( imagine the convergance of a square at an endpoint). I suppose that could be changed by a little more programming and adding a third toggle, such as DEPRESS SHIFT when You Want a Constuction Segment/Point and at all other times you will get a parallel construction line except at endpoints.

As a work around, You could make your contsruction segment at the endpoint and Move it to the centre point.

Eric, Off hand I can't think of any other 'TAP' type things. You still need to depress Shift and keep it depressed, for instance, to lock an inference for the rotate or protractor tool.

    • RE: How to measure from the center point of a line

PS you just need to TAP CNTRL, you don't need to keep it depressed. THis is new with SketchUp 6

Also new with SketchUp 6: Tap Up or Down arrow key to lock drawing a line or moviing something in the blued axis dirextion. Tap left arrow key for green direction, Tap right arrow key for red direction.

You no longer need to depress and keep depressing ALT to get autofold. The tapped arrow key will accomplish the same thing.

When doing a move/copy or a rotate/copy you no longer need to depress CNTRL BEFORE you the first click of the action, you just need to TAP CNTRL and you can do it even after you have started the move or the rotate and switch in midstream to copy mode.

    • RE: Make this?

I played with turning that tub on it's side and trying to triangulate that front bottom area a little further using the "add details" from the sandbox tools and then pre selecting an area and using the "smoove" tool to sqash in the bit that looks pinched in in the photo. Wasn't very successful. You guys have any ideas?

You might actually find this version a little faster. It is using the Sandbox Tools to create the desired surface. BTW, you either have the blue axis in the wrong direction or you are intentionally lying the balustraude down on the ground as you build this. It really could be created vertically as it is in my example.

If you have version 5, the upgrade to 6 is free. If you upgrade you can use some of the new ruby scripts like:skin.rb to stitch things up for you.

    • RE: Array or Copy Multiple?

BTW, you can also copy/rotate ( or move/copy for that matter) and place your copied item to the outermost extreme of where you want the last copy and then input 2/ or 10/ to divide the space in between by multiple copies ( internal array as opposed to external array)

Also when you do the external array do 2x NOT x2 as x may be read by SketchUp as some other command if input first.

    • RE: Center point of a circle

Doh. I missed the bit about highlighting just the circumferenece. I have it now. Thanks. But generally I think it is faster to use the 'remind" inference. Only when I need to keep the centerpoint for some other use later, would I need the construction point.

    • RE: Center point of a circle

I have always had all extensions enabled and I don't get "point at center" on a right click or on a hard select or anything. Never saw it? Are you sure you guys didn't load someone's ruby script?

    • RE: Center point of a circle

There is a faster way. with whatever tool you plan to use, TOUCH and endpoint in one of the segments in the circumference of the circle. Once you remind SketchUp of the circumfernece segment endpoint inferneces, it will also "remember" the center point of the circle so now just move your cursor over where the center aught to be and it will snap for you,

We can simulate a classroom situation. I'll add all 3 of you (mateo, gai, mike) all at the same time and see how it goes. If I can get you all at the same time.

Europe would be great! thanks. By any chance, do you have headphones with a microphone? I would like to test the VOIP as well, but I can certainly do that at a later time if you don't have that.

How soon are you going to sleep?
I will need your e-mail address to "invite" you to the meeting so can you send that by PM? Many thanks.

    • Webex Demo: Teaching SketchUp through the NET

I am testing WEBEX for speed and quality for long distance learning situations both for SketchUp and Piranesi. Anyone willing to be on the other end? Looking for someone at a good distance from Toronto and I want to see if this works with MAC users as well.
First a WINDOWS person though. Any takers?

    • RE: Click-drag-release vs. click-move-click

with most tools I was click releasing, moving click to finish.
There were exceptions, notably the Push Pull tool.
When I started training I was encouraged to get rid of all such bad habits, and though it was difficult to make the change, I got used to it fairly quickly and must admit that inferencing the push pull when you hands are loose and you are not dragging with the left button down, is actually much easier.

The only tool you must drag of course is the freehand tool. I do make one exception. I always drag the offset tool. I find that it is so sensitive that when I click release I have finished the offset before I intended to. So I drag that one.

    • RE: HELP ME!!!!!

The drape tool will only "drape" outlines ( edges) onto a contour.
Rob is right you what you need in order to wrap a texture around a contour is the to use a "projected" texture onto the softened surface. Best way is to bring the logo into SketchUp ( import : Image) explode it. With the "sampler" from the Material Browser, sample the image and then paint bucket it onto the surface.
