What makes your drawing run smoother to save a component and import it into your drawing later or simply import it directly into your drawing?

I a newbe to sketchup. I want to start using housebuilder
I want to be able to edit doors and windows.
Whats the difference between housebuilder and housebuilder extension? or do u have to run both plugins for house builder
